Fighting to keep daughter in education { 14 year old} know things have happened that havent seemed fair but it concerns where I work, so Im in a real quandry, do I kick up a fuss and make waves for myself or keep quiet?

Other daughter, 5 , is having full dyslexia assessment next week. I saw her teacher today and was told, shes hiding her book to avoid reading and her self esteem is slipping a lot, she says ' im not a clever girl'

We are constantly reassuring her, and Will, her older brother, who is overcoming severe dyslexia tries to help her, God love him.


Please send little Abi a cyber hug, shes such a poppet but is getting unhappy cos her mates are progressing and she is struggling so much,

Big huggles for Abi, tell her it will come if she keeps trying, us there any way you can find something she is really interested in to encourage her to read about that? Or get her a story book made up about her, or with her name in? Tell her people can be clever in lots of different ways, doesn't have to just be with reading and stuff. Can you do something like teach her to knit or crochet, she could be clever with that and offer to knit little doll's blankets for her friends dolls or something?
Can she cook nice things, i.e. biscuits and be 'clever' learning how to do that? Anything that will build her confidence and self esteem. Will is a good lad to help her.
Don't know full story re your older girl but hope you can sort something out, you are between a rock and a hard place being at her school.

OH took daughter to meeting and told deputy head I need a break from pressure. The deputy said to daughter, ' you should be grateful you have a Mum who cares' That was so lovely.

Funnily Liz Ive just been cooking with Abi, she is very good practically. Dyslexics tend to be kinesthetic learners so Im focusing there. She loves to be read to but will resist reading herself,

Make sure you reinforce that cookery thing then Caz, as she can shine in other ways and learn that there are many ways of being clever.

hi cumbrian caz well if the bl--y teacher knows whats going of sureley she can find a nother approach your daughter is only saying dont embarrass me find out if the teacher is asking her to read a load in class search all avenues for extra class leave no stone unturned i say this because when i was told my son could not read was when he was eight and as i been to school teacher meeting ect was rather mad that they did not inform me sooner the answer i was given was some children slip through the educational net your daughter is clever i helped my son by putting name next to thing just dotted about house like a apple or his comic ect you see it still makes me mad today and my son is 33 know lol lilymoon

My friends grandson has Aspergers and she fought for 7 years to get him educated.It paid off and he is doing really well.
MY own grandson,just 28,had a mild dyslexia,and wasn't academic,but he surprised us,took an interest in cooking,and is now a very good chef.In fact he got to the final 6 in Young Chef of the year a few years ago.
Your daughter will probably shine in her practical abilities!

I was going to ask about gardening too, will be lovely for her. She will find her niche!

caz all your loving and hard work for your children will pay off keep at it it does get easier and always fight for what you belive in, look at the storys i tell about david , we are having a few probs with nat at moment always something to keep us at it always here for you if you need a chat xxx
