Thank you all for your kind words, I have decided to win the Euro lottery tomorrow, and tell her to stick her job where the Sun don't shine, and then I will become a retired person without a team leader to upset me. But then again, I would miss my Ladie's.

What a load of old cr*p!

Sounds like your boss is a jobsworth!

I'd appeal if I were you.

Either that or kick her in the shins. Does she not have a heart?

Gillian hi xxxx

The fact that this person you are talking about has the title of 'team leader' does not qualify her to bring people down.. a leader she certainly is not.

A leader should be a person who knows his/her duties fully and be responsible for carrying out same.
They include understanding and respecting each individual to ensure full potential is achieved.

As Colin stated, an appraisal is a two way system which I always found to be fair until................my company gave employment to a graduate who was fresh out of uni..an accountant...

They were assessing his ability to handle staff and I was one of his test cases..first appraisal went something like this... he wrote up his findings and gave me a copy which I read. I then requested a meeting with his/my manager.

His findings being that I was incompetent at my job, my work systems were sadly lacking, workload had fallen behind and ... that I took a smoke break which was allowed by company policy anyway...

It was hilarious really because my manager knew of my capabilities and dedication.

He stood up, ripped my appraisal into shreds and informed this 'wee boy' that if he had the wish to stay employed then he'd better grow up, take a lower grade within our finance section and learn a few home truths about responsibilty and workloads. The same wee boy left the firm six months later....

No one individual can take you to task, sack or even bully you... it is against the law and very legal.

Have found that some females are very territorial in the work place and defend their space, sometimes to the extreme.. sounds a bit like your so called 'team leader'.

By the way you are not 'just a Senior'...
you are a very lovely person who has been dealt and terrible blow in life.

Most people can accept constructive critisim because we learn something about ourselves at the end of the day.

The critisim thrown at you was totally unacceptable and certainly not constructive .. would love to step into your shoes right now and give HER a dressing down.. she would quiver in her boots and probably 'pee' her pants. lol

Take care lass and do not fret too much, easier said than done I know...

Love

If she left the training to comfort you, meaning she also didn't complete it does that mean she will also be marked down?

Perhaps the reason you're not fully appreciated is you are always there!
I can remember you saying not so long back that you had a real stinky cold & we all told you to stay in bed but you went to work.
Maybe, just maybe, if you stayed home now & again when you are unwell, they would realise just how good a job you do.

Oh Gillian, what an absolute crap way to treat hard working staff - I'm sure you would be welcomed with open arms in another post and it will be their loss - I can feel myself composing a letter in my head to give them when you say goodbye [and up yours]!!! You are worth so much more than that, you know it and we all know it - stuff 'em. Don't let it get you down, they have the problem, not you.

When I was last in a proper job! my manager my peers and my staff all gave me points against various aspects of my performamce. I did the same for my staff and my manager....its called feedback! perhaps I should come around and teach them the purpose of appraisels and the importance of relevant, timely and 360 degree feedback Gillian

i know how dedicated you are when i met you , you really need to tell her how you feel, bosses can be so selfish, mayby she knows your so good she dos'nt want to lose you thus keeping you feeling you have to improve befor e you could move on to something else or higher job,

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 6 Feb 2008 15:49

I am sure you should be able to appeal. Do you just have the one person for your report or does she get it countersigned by her boss? You should be able to write in to appeal. In your appeal you could say this has made you feel undervalued.

Appraisals should be a two way thing. Did they give you the opportunity to tell them what you were concerned with and were not happy with?

It is awful not to feel properly valued at your job especially when you know you give it your all. I do hope you will get the day off you want with no hassle and that the boss will learn to appreciate you more.
Keep up your good work Gillian.

Jennifer, Have they given you the day off yet? I gather that you enjoy what you do, and job satisfaction is important, but it is not worth the grief that they give you if they are treating you like this.

I just feel alone and unsupported at work, I really work hard, and do what is expected of me, I asked for the 18th of March off, as it will be two years since I lost my Stephen, and I ask myself how I am still here, but here I am, and work is so important to me, I give it 101% but obviously not good enough XX I got told they will think about it. I am having that day off, come what may. XX.

Maddiecow Report 5 Feb 2008 22:55

I agree with Muffy - you should be able to appeal this - but if it was just your appraisal did it have an impact on anything - ie salary or such. Could be your boss is inexperianced in these matters?
