I haven't been on this site for months and within 10 mins my anti virus has picked up something!!!

They obviously don't monitor the community or they would know what was going on.

I know that it isn't the site itself but the ads on the site and these have and are affecting lots of other sites. But to outright deny theirs a problem is just not blinky right. If they paid any attention at all they'd know. And we can't give them credit for working behind the scenes when they obviously aren't since according to them there is no problem.

I wonder if your /our very own Internet Suppliers dont have sufficent anti-virus in place,,,,but Trojansand Worms can infect anywhere,,,,

,,,,how do they get into Banking systems ?

But there is def something not quite right while so many are getting this Trojan message popup,,,we all run different anti-programes,,and not all wil get that message over a couple of days,,,,,,,,,,,Im touching wood,,,,,,,,,,,!!!!

Kay, they're not just *not* doing something they're denying that there is even a problem!

My reply:

I do not feel that you can bury your head in the sand on this one. I'm outraged at your response. Have you not seen what is going on with the community. This is effecting almost everyone. Most people have adequate anti-viral software installed, but others do not and have been infected. How much evidence do you need that there is a problem before you will do something. Someone has mentioned that this is also effecting the friends reunited site as well.

People are getting this problem and the only site they are on at the time is Genes. The people who are unaffected have firefox as a browser which blocks flash advertising. Therefore it is reasonable to say that the problem is with your advertising. I encourage you to have your tech team block this until the problem can be traced and delt with. You are going to lose customers over your handling of this incident.

Please sort this problem out!

I was checking out my site whilst at work earlier and what did I find .... yep you quessed it a virus.. thank god they had virus checks...

It took shop techies 2 days to rid mine of Trojan one of the more severe ones,, without losing any of my stuff on computer,,,,,
GR cant isolate from a server without shutting or near shutting the site down,,,,dont forget GR carries millions of files &programes, for this site alone without FR,Connection.Etc,,,
Unless you have been hit by Trojan, its very complex once its in your system,,,

,,Im more bothered of those who dont have enough or even if they have its broke through their anti-virus and it could cost cash in repair shop.........

I have just had this reply from Genes. Are they insane??????

Dear Liz

I would like to assure you that the spy ware problem you encountered did not come from Genes Reunited.

I would suggest that you download Spybot and Ad-aware from the internet. These are free downloads and will remove any unwanted spy ware from your PC. I also suggest that you make sure your anti-virus software is kept up-to-date and that you run it regularly.

Our site is virus-free and is incapable of spreading viruses. I would suggest that you read our privacy policy which you can find at the foot of the site which details tracking cookies, which is what your anti-virus software may be picking up.

I hope this helps you.

Best regards,

Kay... ahead of time?... they've now had 24 hours at least to sort this out. That's too long in my opinion. Exactly what are their techie people employed to do? This problem has been brought to their attention repeatedly. In my opinion they are now guilty of negligence until they are seen to be doing something to solve the problem.

Please dont slam GR to ahead of time,,,,these Trojans can and do invade even the tightest web sites,or any networking server or site,,,,,,,,,,ie Banks and the like,,,,GR will have things in place to stop it being a complete threat to the site...but unless you understand the complex of some of these Trojan viruses then it can take time to find where it has invaded and rid it from the server,or site,,*****

But GR should have in my opinion put a Stickie up to its customers,to give re-assurance or what may be experienced,,,and advise on your own antivirus software ie--update ,,,,
Each week these programmer Geeks are coming up with new Trojans that even the software can sometimes not detect........some of thee Trojans make the rounds every so often some older than others..,,some with added Worms which are more effective in causing more damage to a computer system,,,,,,,,

Thank you for posting this thread! Thought I was seeing things couple of days ago...I don't come into here very often, but while browsing through GR, my Norton popped up to notify me that a virus had been blocked & dealt with it etc.
I'm not amused at the lack of due diligence re GR with respect for it's paying members.

I have just sent this message to genes abuse team:

Dear Genes Reunited.

You have been notified by many members today that there is a problem with a trojan downloader on the boards, probably coming from the flash advertising.

At what point are you going to do something about this ongoing threat to security. This is abuse of your members. I'm discussed that something isn't being seen to be done. Perhaps if your team were to put an announcement up on the communities people wouldn't be so outraged. Perhaps we need to be reporting this problem to the security companies who give a green light to your website.

This is negligent on your part and It is about time you took action!

Hi All,

I have had this virus problem twice so far when accessing this site. Luckily I have Norton Anti Virus and it blocked it. I hate to think what kind of damage it would have done to my pc.

I think it terrible to learn this from other members and not GR.

They should put a post up letting us know whats going on.
