I'd be careful with that then Liz, especially since people with FM are more prone to thyroid problems.

I take kelp tablets often and it helps my hair grow, as it is fine and thin, helps more hair grow through.

I just wanted to concur with Athena. I was warned to avoid things like kelp because of the amount of iodine in it. Iodine and thyroid problems are not a good combination.

Also with regards the Valerian tea, if you're on other medications you need to check with the doctor as valerian can interfere with certain meds.

Mick - too much iodine in the diet also causes thyroid probs, unfortunately. Thyroid probs are very common and I'm sure that a lot of it is down to our diet and the chemicals we ingest on a daily basis.

I had a friend who thought taking iodine supplements was good for her to help her lose weight. She ended up with a thyroid goiter and now has a scar from the op running halfway around her neck! Her consultant was horrified when she told him she had been taking those supplements and some days she'd taken double the dose (wanting to lose weight quicker she said - doh!).

Anyone with a suspected thyroid condition should really limit their iodine/fluoride/soya intake.

My advice, as someone who's battled thyroid cancer, is "moderation in all things" - if you enjoy green tea don't stop drinking it, just limit the amount you drink. There are so many things in our diet that are bad for us that if we stopped everything there would be very little for us to survive on LOL!

Take care - Athena

I like green tea! Maybe thats why the quack was put me on thyroid hormones though?! But if you get enough iodine in your diet fluorine shouldnt be a problem - flourine is chemically very close to iodine, and will replace it if no iodine is there.

I too tried it and didn't like it! I quite like valerian tea to help me sleep altho I do add a little honey to it sometimes. Have several boxes of different ones I have bought and only used a few bags, then it gets stuck at the back of the shelf, as you say lol
It is so hard to know what to eat, drink, put on your skin etc etc as there are so many different theories all the time.
One thing I do know is that I will avoid aspartame like the plague.
Have actually been drinking filtered water for a week or more, which is most unlike me as I always hate plain water, even bottled water I don't like, but thought I had better try when I had the uti last week. Think I will make an effort to continue with water more than tea and coffee etc I do like the highjuice 'squashes' which don't have aspartame in, there is a raspberry, cranberry and blueberey one, which is tasty.

I have tried a peach flavoured one and that was lovely. I also tried jasmine green tea and it tasted like I was eating flowers, did not like it. Have tried plain green tea and don't have it often as sometimes I can't stand the taste

Think I best avoid it then, I've only got half a thyroid left and I sort of want to hang on to it. That op was not nice and I don't want to go through it again lol.

I'll stick to my tetley decaf
