Gwyn in Kent Report 26 Jun 2022 11:56

Is there any site, which will give clues to possible children born of 1974 marriage in Kent?
I have subscription to Ancestry, but not FMP.

I am helping someone, who needs to check for children of the probable marriage of an extended family member who married in Dover registration district in 1974 to someone listed with 2 possible surnames ( one being the same as her spouse).

I thought I had found 2 children, by doing the usual searching Groom's surname with supposed mmn of his spouse, but unfortunately there was another couple married in roughly the same area with the same combination of surnames and the names given to at least one of the children suggest they were of the 2nd couple, rather than the researched family.

The groom's name seems to be unique in the birth index, so I am fairly sure it is the correct person, but I've recommended ordering the marriage certificate to be sure.
As this is Kent, is there anything I can do locally.?
Is there a restriction on ordering a cert. from within 50 years?

Sorry this is a bit vague, but I don't know who might be living.
The groom in the 1974 marriage moved away from here and family lost touch. He has since died in Wales and seems to have lived alone ? and we are trying to find possible descendants.
I am willing to give more information in PM.

Freebmd………but speculation can lead to wrong conclusions

The use of two surnames for the woman suggests they lived together prior to marriage, but your advice about getting the cert makes absolute sense,

I assume you’ve checked ER’s for the woman?

Have you ordered the man’s death cert?

It's easy for us to spot the marriage on FreeBMD, given what you've said.

[EDIT: No, it's not - in light of later info! ]

When and where was the other marriage?

Thank you Erika.

Freebmd only shows the name combination, which I now suspect are the other family.

ERs show someone with the wife's married name in 2002 in Dover and nothing since.
Nobody else listed with them.

In the same year, the man is listed alone in Wales, where he died.
Nothing since, so he obviously chose to come off the public list.

I have looked for a death or later marriage for the wife, but there are too many possibles and none in this area to indicate a good possibility.

Thank you for reading ArgyllGran.
The other marriage was 1971 in the same registration area.

The births pre-date the marriage - look at the additional info on freebmd

I can’t see the alleged 1971 marriage on freebmd……..

Sorry Erika, no death cert.ordered.

The person I am helping was contacted by someone trying to trace family after the man died suddenly in Wales earlier this year as a result of a house fire.

My contact is linked by marriage, as it was her late husband's extended family.

[ Deleted wrong info, as had picked the wrong 1974 marriage.]

Just to ascertain that I have picked the correct records. Groom’s surname beginning with. M - bride’s with G?

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 26 Jun 2022 12:46

The daughter born 1972 died 1973

The older one married in 1995 and is on ER in Dover 2002-2004

There is a birth after the marriage - that one is on ER 2002 and 2003

Check on Zoopla to see if any of the addresses have recently been sold

I'm thinking it's quite possible that there was a break up, no evidence, but no paper trail to show otherwise.

If the marriage cert. information leads to an address in ERs, I might be able to track them in local library archives in this general area, as I know the lists are sometimes available at main branches.
Won't help to find children that way though.

What are the forenames of the couple you say married in 1971?

I will send PM

I'm confused now!

ErikaH said, " Groom’s surname beginning with. M - bride’s with G"

Which marriage are we talking about?

I have assumed that the 1974 groom's name began with B and the bride's with either B or M.

If that's the correct couple, then there don't seem to be any children of that marriage.

I don't see a 1971 marriage with the same surname combination.

Obviously a lot of living together pre-marriage in Kent in those days ;-) ;-) ;-)

The 2002 address was last sold in 2017, but could have changed hands any nuimber of times

The ‘other’ groom is on ER to 2012….alone, but with wife and younger son in 2002

It certainly looks as though there were no legitimate children for the couple you’re researching
