Ashover

ErikaH Report 22 Nov 2018 16:00

Try looking at previous and following census pages for names of nearby roads.

EDITED

I've just scrolled through 21 census pages for ED 1c Ashover and there isn't a single 'street' recorded. Perhaps I'm missing something

ArgyllGran Report 22 Nov 2018 16:05

Who is the person you've found living there?

There's more than one batch of Ashover records in 1851 on Ancestry.
1a - 1f, if not more.

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 22 Nov 2018 16:13

Go back to image one of the ED you're looking at, and see what the description of the district is. That should give you an idea.of the location

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 22 Nov 2018 16:21

I don't see Peters Street mentioned on page 1 of any of the batches 1a-1f.

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 22 Nov 2018 16:24

Nor do I - and, to be honest, I don't think 'street' sounds likely for the place in the mid-1800's

Although, by looking at prevous and subsequent addresses on the census pages, one can sometimes tie in an address with the enumerator's route.

I wonder if it's been mis-transcribed

Vena -

what is the person's name, please?

Vena

Vena Report 22 Nov 2018 19:58

John hollingsworth born 1817

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 22 Nov 2018 21:34

The address in 1851 looks like Gladwin Mark. Born 1813

The only one of that name with an address of 'Peters' is in Manchester

Also, no ‘s’ in the surname for the one in Ashover

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 23 Nov 2018 09:01

Yes, I agree, ErikaH.

Hollingworth 1813, not Hollingsworth 1817, and the address is Gladwin Mark.

(Some other years' censuses do show his YOB as 1817.)

The answer to your original question, Vena -
Peters Street wasn't anywhere in Ashover.

PM from Vena:

"Hollingsworth family William .. 1851 then seem to have disappeared in 1841 it’s stumped me too thankyou for replying "

Vena, I'm confused. You said his name was John.

Anyway, there's still no Peters Street in Ashover.

Please can you copy/paste the record you've found?

Or tell us who else is in his household?

Thankyou all so much think I’ve misread the peasaen hurst as peters street
I really appreciate all your help it totally threw me and it is definitely who we are looking for

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 23 Nov 2018 21:28

He was at Peaseen Hurst in 1841, which is the census you couldn't find.

In 1851, the census you were asking about, he was at Gladwin Mark.

However, I'm glad you're happy with the outcome.

Thanks again everyone ... I can’t seem to find a baptism on William Hollingsworth, in 1841 census, the William living at peaseen hurst farm . Can anyone help with it please x

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 14 Dec 2018 19:22

Vena, you need to read the census records carefully.

The man at Peaseen Hurst in 1841 was John, not William.

Is that the one you want the baptism record for (if we can find it) ?
