Thank you so much Liz for all your hard work on my Sparkes family Romany look up. Sadly (I think) you have not found a connection but I am extremely lucky to have had your expertise in this quest. I shall be delving deeper as we may still have a link through my other side of the family but that's for later. GR are lucky to have you on the boards, thank you again.

hello Elizabeth,
could you please look to see if you have any LOCKHARTS in your records,

I cannot find any birth records for james lockhart born c1780.

I know he married Theodosia day in 1802 in the midlands and died 1843 in burton upon trent,

not a lot to go on but this is all I have, one of his sons was a hawker .

Apologies for not replying to your last snippet Liz, haven't been at the computer for a few days. The news that John married when at Thorney Hill encampment has opened another line of enquiry with an offer of help from someone who grew up there. Thank you so much for your help.

hello Elizabeth,
did the romany families not name the mother on the baptism records,
I have found what may be james lockharts siblings all born in pettinain lanakshare,
I have found what may be a marriage for the father john lockhart.
john lockhart married jean purdie 17-03-1776 in pettinain.
this marriage is in again with the same people & date but at carstairs Lanarkshire.
is there any way to find the mothers name to connect them all together.
any suggestions on this would be most welcome.
thank you

Elizabeth

Elizabeth Report 19 Aug 2014 08:21

:-)Hello Martynsue
Scotland were notorious for Not including the mothers surname on the baptism records-I think that the clue to your kin is Pettinairn, especially since the same marriage is entered again at Carstairs(this sometimes did happen with the families moving around)-

I am researching what apparently was a gypsy family, but I could do with some help where possible. Sadly the information I have is rather limited, and it is quite recent.

The main person I am trying to find is Alfred Elijah Leonard Hill, but it seems he has used vary different combinations of the name. I known he had one daughter called Sylvia Elizabeth b1934 possibly with a woman called Edith. This was in the Winson Green area of Birmingham.

I am unaware of a birth year for him or anything else, other than the fact he took part in boxing matches, but sadly nothing else. I was wondering whether this was in your remit or not?

:-) :-)Hi Meefy
I knew that I had come across the name Alfred Elijah somewhere, and after searching I found the information, it`s around 15 years old,and was not included in my data because I could find no connection with the romany`s the gentlemen that was looking for Alfreds family gave the following info at the time I checked it for proof and decided to keep it in a separate file-hope it helps-
