There are a couple of Penny Sweets in the birth records. :-)

When I worked in the Post Office one of our customers was a Mrs. Balls, sadly her name was Rose (Rosie Balls).

One of my colleagues actually said to her about the unfortunate connotations of her name. Her husband came in later and threatened to beat the living daylights out of him.

We saw some very odd names, but one thing we did notice was that a lot of W. Indian people had names associated with the colour White: Blanc, Le Blanc, White et., I can only assume that the slave owners thought it was amusing! Not...

There was a long running thread a while back which had lots of odd, funny, unfortunate, and downright rude names and mistranscribes from the records. I can't find it so it probably got removed. It wouldn't get beyond the first couple of posts now thanks to the report button.
