please can someone help me find more info on my nans side of the family her name is edith wright born c1910 south shields. she was married to a john poynter in c1938 in derby, south shields. they had sons john poynter born 1935, george poynter born 1938 and daughter edith born 1940. thank you !

Could this be her birth? (its the only one on FreeBMD between 1906 and 1914 in South Shields) :-

Are you certain that her husband's name was John? There is a marriage of an Edith Wright to a George Poynter in 1938 in South Shields. It's in the June qtr. 10a, 1717.

May help to track them in the 1911 census and then find further info.

This looks like George and Edith in 1939 - Edith born a bit later than you thought.

The transcription shows a closed record which may well be son George - records closed if born under 100 years ago and death not proved

However - The original document only shows George and Edith with 1 closed record. There are letter loops below the line so could well be George. wonder if his record has been opened on transcription but not on the original page

Neither the marriage nor the 1939 register show a second name for Edith.

Her birth reg. should have been in either the June or September Quarter 1916, so looking at the GRO site she was either registered late in South Shields (December Qtr) or was born elsewhere.

Do you know if she had any siblings?

Looking back at the 1939 register - looks as though John may have died so wouldn't have been on the register anyway

There was possibly another Poynter / Wright marriage in 1931 South Shields -
John to Sarah (? those shown on the 1939 register posted above as neighbours of George). Possibly brothers married sisters. Certainly there is a birth for a John with mmn Sisterson

There were several births Poynter/Wright in south Shields RD and it's unlikely they came from the one marriage

That ties in with what's on freebmd birth wise BUT there are two marriages for a Poynter to Wright , so you need to know which children belong to which marriage

they had john who died aged 1

edith dont know dob

now il find more info on ediths parents but im aware ediths mum died during birth

Caris, you'll need the marriage cert for Edith to find her father's name.

Her date of birth is on the 1939 register ( other thread has it).

I also advised that today in response to a pm from Caris !
