I have just received the following PM from Sandie. In my reply to her by PM I have explained how to get back to her threads.

Firstly thank you for taking the time to help me, I apologise for not being more specific in last message but this is my first time in using the Message Board. I am looking for info on

Ellen York born 1878 Sheerness, Kent to John Henry York & Ester Sophia Carter. She married Bernard John Welch about 1906 Orsett, Essex. I am trying to find out if she had children or when she died.

She had two other sisters Eliza Sophia York born 1877 and Sarah born 1879 and died 1884. Eliza married Albert Edward Burgiss 1898 and they immig to Aust 1911 on "Waipara".

Their half sisters were Rose Emily York 1883 & Violet Ethel York 1885. I am trying to find if Rose married or had children and when she died. As far as I know I don't think Ellen or Rose came to Australia

I have spaced the message to assist in indentifying the searches that Sandie wishes to make.

I have that she was born 1878 Sheerness, Kent, England and married Bernard John Welch about 1906 in Orsett,m Essex. I think they had 2 or 3 children but am unable to find any.

I do not have access to the UK BMD even though it says its free. Would appreciate any help.

Firstly, my apologies for not identifying the individuals I am researching. I am looking for info on Rose Emily York born 1883 Upton Park, Essex to John Henry York & Ester Sophia Carter. I can't find any evidence that she married or had children or when she died.

Their other child Violet Ethel York born 22 July 1885 Grays, Essex. England. Violet married Alfred Newing 29 June 1903 Fulham, Middlesex and they had 2 children Alfred 1904 & Violet Blanche May 11 Feb 1906 both born in England. They immig to Aust arriving Brisbane QLD 7 Apr 1910, on board "OTWAY". They then had 2 more children, I THINK, Elsie & George. Ah...I see Sandra has responded in a roundabout way. I sent her a message on 18.7 with the usual advice on how to find and respond to a thread.

This is the sentence I use:

"It would be appreciated if you could put any response onto your thread rather than send the helper a private message (such as this) unless, of course, the information is of a sensitive nature. This helps all the helpers to know that you have seen the work done on your behalf."

Ellen is my great great great grandmother.

I'm trying to find any information on her daughter Phyllis' father.

Phyllis is illegitimate. I have be told her father is a Jewish boy who's house Ellen worked in as a servant. Phyllis was born in 1903/1904 so Ellen must have worked in the Jewish household at the time of the 1901 census.

I found an Ellen York working at '88 Woodvale, Lewisham' in the fawcett household where there lived 3 sons. Fawcett doesn't seem a particularly Jewsish name tho.

the only inconsistency is that Ellen is listed as being born in Sheerness in the 1911 census when she was Ellen Welch but all the other details are about right.

Does anyone else know of anything? XxX

You can click on Sandra's name and send her a message directly - she never got back and replied on here, though obviously she did read it.

You are probably better advised to start a new thread for your own family queries, detailing the information that you have. You could link to this post if you wanted to show what has been found by others.

(If Phyllis was born in 1903/1904 then Ellen could have been working in a different household in 1901 census. Have you tried to find her birth certificate in free bmd?)

I have sent Sandra a msg but i no reply as of yet.

Phyllis was born in the, what was then 'East End Mothers lay-in home' on commercial road.

It was a pre NHS hospital but the royal london hospital museum has the records for it and I'm just waiting till they open on tues at 10am to call them and ask them for details.

No-one in our family has the birth certificate to be able to find the listed address she would have gave at the time of the birth so hence calling the museum.

This is such a big missing jigsaw piece for our family.
