I'm looking for Louisa Malcolm who gave birth to my Grandmother Leonora Malcolm on 5th May 1912 at 6 Castle Tce Aberdeen. Shortly after she gave birth she gave my Grandmother to the nuns at Nazereth House Orphanage in Aberdeen, Scotland. We have never been able to find any information about her.

The only information I have is on my Grandmothers birth certificate. She is simply listed as Louisa Malcolm, domestic servant.

I seem to keep hitting dead ends and would be extremely grateful if anyone could help.

The Scottish 1911 comes out on 5th April and may help somewhat.
I know it is eagerly awaited by many people,me included to maybe try and help break through some brick walls.

Good luck.

Thank you. I'm hoping that it will at least give me some insight into whether 6 Castle Tce was a kind of home for unmarried mothers as from Googling it turns out that there was another child born at that address 6 weeks earlier whose parents also weren't married.

Thanks very much :) I guess the Louisa above may show up on 1911 census with a few more clues. I hope so.

Also, thank you for the heads up about Castle Tce having the sick children's hospital. I wonder why babies were being born there?

Stacey

Stacey Report 20 Mar 2011 09:04

Ahhh...from a bit more googling it seems that 6 Castle Terrace was a maternity hospital!

Anyone know what time this census is supposed to be released? *taps fingers*

Absoloutely nothing! Can't find hide nor hair of anyone mentioned on the 1901 census entry posted above at all. I *know* she was in Aberdeen at that time - it's all very strange.

Stacey

Stacey Report 5 Apr 2011 12:46

Well, I'm inclined to believe that this 1911 census is a great big expensive swizz. I can't find *anyone* in my family on either side and they give you such little information that you waste 5 credits a time viewing complete strangers.

Grumpy now.

FannyByGaslight

FannyByGaslight Report 5 Apr 2011 13:32

You are not the only one who is Grumpy now...
I cant find any Overseas Military AT ALL....
I am getting nowhere with my search either.

Stacey

Stacey Report 5 Apr 2011 13:41

I'm quite cross because on one of the entries it said someone was 49, which would have been the right age but when I opened it (at the cost of 5 credits) the person was actually 43.

FannyByGaslight Report 5 Apr 2011 14:00

Who other than Louisa Malcolm are you looking for.
I have had no luck with her for you I am afraid...I have tried

If you give some details I can give it a try..

Stacey

Stacey Report 5 Apr 2011 14:04

I've been looking for my Nana's father - John Baxter. And as a test I looked for eople I knew would be there - like my other GGparents. No sign of them either.

I've found someone who would have been approximately the right age called Annie Malcolm (Louisa had a younger sister called Annie) She's on a very strange entry indeed. It's an institution full of 35 women and it has no address on it. I'm wondering how I can find out what the address is?

Hmmmmm, I'm grumpy now too!

I'm sure not all the 1911 records have been uploaded yet..........I can't find hide nor hair of the 2 brothers I've spent £35 so far this morning searching for. :-(((

Stacey Report 5 Apr 2011 14:24

Actually, just used a bit of nouse and found from the free header that it's ther Aberdeen Royal infrmary. Would she have called herself a domestic servant if she was working at a hospital?? Curiouser and curiouser. Maybe it isn't her after all...

Well, there seem to be two other Annie Malcolms of the right age in Aberdeen at the time so it probably isn't her.

Where on earth is she hiding?!

Stacey

Stacey Report 5 Apr 2011 14:25

I must admit I wondered the same Mary and have spent just under £30.

Just a thought Stacey, do you think Louisa may have gone to Scotland to have her baby--maybe to relatives---there is this Louisa on 1911 english census her mum was from Scotland. and although it says Louisa was born in Barrow in Furness on 1911 census--- on the 1901 census it says Barrow, Scotland
