I am trying to find the 1901 census for John William Hartley Wilson born 1895 in Co' Durham. Father was also called John and was a miner ( mothers name not known ). He had no brothers but 4 sisters called Ada, Elizabeth, Polly and Violet. I'm not sure of their dates of birth so they might not be on the 1901 census. Many thanks Sue |

Without his mums name this is going to be hard to look...you'd be best to get 1 of the childrens birth certificate |

So do i Julie! I think its a pretty good hunch though as the mothers maiden name was often used for the eldest child. |

Ken, sorry not to reply, I had to go out. Thanks for looking. I agree with you it looks likely this could be the family. My mother in law married John W H Wilsons son so only knew the sisters as adults. She said he had no brothers just sisters called Ada, Elizabeth,Polly and Violet but I suppose the girls on the 1901 census could have died in childhood. |

Kirsty, sorry not to have replied but I had to go out. Many many thanks for all your help in this investigation. Can I ask where did you look to get these dates. I have ancestry and you have to plough through each page to find details. |
