Kirsty, sorry not to have replied but I had to go out. Many many thanks for all your help in this investigation. Can I ask where did you look to get these dates. I have ancestry and you have to plough through each page to find details.
It looks likely that these are the girls. As I said to Ken my problem is now proving this is the family on the 1901 census so enabling me to work further back. Many thanks again Sue

Ken, sorry not to reply, I had to go out. Thanks for looking. I agree with you it looks likely this could be the family. My mother in law married John W H Wilsons son so only knew the sisters as adults. She said he had no brothers just sisters called Ada, Elizabeth,Polly and Violet but I suppose the girls on the 1901 census could have died in childhood.
Everything else fits including the area. My trouble now is proving that it is them !! Thanks again Sue

Are you sure of the daughters names? perhaps they were nicknames.
In the 1901 census Margeret E was born Margaret Elizabeth,

Births Mar 1898
Wilson Margaret Elizabeth Teesdale 10a 261

The fathers name is right, his job is right the son John has the right second initial and the mother agrees with Sarah Maud nee Hartley. Incidentally there is only one John & Sarah Wilson in the Durham 1901 census.

Sue..i wouldn't do anything on a hunch..i could of done on my own tree but didn't...i wanted it all confirmed..to me that would be cutting corners

Sue

Sue Report 21 Jan 2008 14:50

So do i Julie! I think its a pretty good hunch though as the mothers maiden name was often used for the eldest child.

I am trying to find the 1901 census for John William Hartley Wilson born 1895 in Co' Durham. Father was also called John and was a miner ( mothers name not known ). He had no brothers but 4 sisters called Ada, Elizabeth, Polly and Violet. I'm not sure of their dates of birth so they might not be on the 1901 census. Many thanks Sue
