Hi Julie,

I'm having difficulty with the message, so have written it again for me - but may have changed the sense? Esp on Bunty and Eileen?

"Desperately trying to find any information on the BRIDE family who lived on Anfield Rd L’pool.

I have:
William Frederick born 6.11.23
Gladys born 1927 (Bunty?)
(Bunty?) and Elsie m born 1920

Mothers maiden name Torrens
Links with the West Derby area but cannot trace anything on (the father of?) my husband

Malcolm John Bride 6.3.1956

I know his biological mother’s maiden name was Bowler and his mum’s (step) was Eileen (may?) born 2.9.1920 died in the 70's

Malcolm also has a brother. He’s not seen since he was 11. He was born c1949.

Malcolm’s dad lived his later life in Bicester and was in the RAF stationed once at Weeton Barracks.

Any help appreciated"

All the best

Ivy

Was Malcolm's dad William Frederick, or was that Malcom's uncle?

Malcolm's birth certificate should name his dad (£7 from GRO) and will give you his own mum's forename.

Was Malcolm an only child, the eldest, or some way down the family? Would the marriage (between BRIDE and BOWLER) be around 1956 or sometime earlier?

Hi Brenda,

That's quick searching - in the time taken to ask the question, you have the answer!

Hi Brenda,

Just off to make pancakes - will have a look after that. Any other Bowler births either side of Greta's? (Perhaps Whitemoss a mistranscription along the way?) Whitemoss sounds a thoroughly Lancastrian name though - what is the Ancestry spread of the name in 1901?

Hi Brenda

Did you search Bowler looking for Whitemoss? I could look for Whitemoss married to something like Bowler - actually, it might be an idea to look for any males married to Whitemoss, since the mother may have been on a second marriage?

I've had a quick look on Ancestry - Whitemoss seems to be mainly Rochdale/Oldham/Haslingden, although there are a few others (Coventry, Liverpool). I wonder if Manchester N had been Rochdale/Oldham?

Ivy Report 20 Jan 2008 13:34

Hi Brenda

I've got as far as Dec 1927 working backwards from the earlier birth, so I only have Beatrice Whitemoss marrying a Jackson in Blackburn in the 4th qtr 1927.

Probably best to get Greta's birth certificate before looking further?

[ed - yes, seen your conclusion too - well spotted on that W!]

Hi Julie,

It sounds as if there are two separate things here. Lots of us here are fascinated by Victorian ancestors and further back - but all of us have relatives who just can't see why we would want to find out that - we're never going to be able to talk to earlier generations.

So is it the case that Malcolm is really just interested in confirming his parentage so that he has a better foundation for finding his brother? (so that, for instance, the name of Greta's mother might be irrelevant?)

If that is the case, then Malcolm might need the birth certificates for him and his brother. All the events that Brenda found have the references that you need to order certificates. They can be ordered online at £7 each and are posted out to you. The website is this address:

http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/

By the way, have you contacted Karen regarding William Bride born 1924 Liverpool? See the "Search trees" button on the home page.

So far as finding living relatives is concerned, you could follow up with Sheila on her posting above (click her name to send her a personal message and she can then provide you with the details without it going on the public message boards).

On the other hand, if you also want to follow the ancestry further back, you will need at the least Greta's birth certificate (again from GRO), and it would be wise to buy each birth and marriage certificate in the chain since you get more info.

For a detailed listing of what might be on certificates, see this website address:
