Hello,
My Clack origins are in Clanfield, not far from Broardwell. I don't have a Charles 1737 in my tree, but I would not be surprised if there is some distant connection.
Good Luck in your searches.
John

Hi John,
I'm sure all the Clack's in that area are all pieces in the same jigsaw, and hopefully one day they may all fit together.

Elizabeth,This is what I have upto now....

The IGI entry is a "member submission"
I have this which looks as if it is the right Charles.
Marriage 15 October 1759 at Kencot By Lic Charles CLACK of Broadwell b Mary SIMPSON otp sp Wit=John Stevens jnr/Richard Martin
also Marriage 11 September 1759 at Kencot Samuel CLACK of Broadwell b Elizabeth SIMPSON otp sp Wit=John Stevens jnr/William Townsend
I have only these children for Charles and Mary 04 Nov 1759-Thomas bpt Kencot 16 Jun 1761-Edward bpt Broadwell
I have not found a baptism for Charles or Samuel at Broadwell but a Samuel Clack and Elizabeth ? baptised Anne in 1736 then there is a gap until William in 1745 and John in 1749.
It is tempting to think that Charles and Samuel were brothers and fit into that gap ....but no proof so far !!
Charles was buried 24 March 1784 (no age given) Mary was buried 15 April 1811 age 80 (both at Broadwell)
Which one is your ancestor ?
Samuel Clack and Elizabeth baptised 12 Dec 1762-Samuel at Broadwell-buried 24 May 1764 11 Nov 1765-Samuel at Broadwell 13 Aug 1769-Charles at Brize Norton
Elizabeth was buried 10 Sept 1769 at Brize Norton Samuel was buried 26 March 1770 at Brize Norton

Elizabeth, your good, where did you find that lot so qiuck ! Thank you so much.
that is the right Charles Clack, I have no sibling for Charles but like you say it would good to connect him with Samuel.
Charles and Mary's children I have Thomas 1759 and Edward 1761
Edward went on to marry Elizabeth Dyer in 1785, this is the line I come from.
My I ask ,if the IGI entry is a "member submission" dose that mean its not a reliable source ? and if that's correct where am I best looking ?

"Member Submission" on the I.G.I. are generally considered less reliable then the "Extracted" entries which are from the Parish Registers. Sometimes the submitter is making a guess-as with the marriage which she thought was in Broadwell
Apart from the IGI,whose coverage of Oxfordshire is not good (as the Bishop of Oxford would not allow the LDS to film the P/Rs) it is the Parish Registers.
I have CLACKs from Clanfield in my tree and some time ago I spent some time extracting all the CLACK entries from the P/Rs around there to see if they did join up ! Some did but most did not !
I think Edward's brother Thomas married Ann LOCK 01 January 1783 at Alvescot. I have their children if you are interested in having them.

Hi Richard.
Ive not got a James up to now but I have a lot from Filkins around that time starting with Joseph 1812, through to Edwin 1860, so i wouldn't be surprised if their is a connection
Thanks for the Parish records,I will look into the names.

hi, I read this thread with interest as i have a Martha Clack in my family tree. She was born about 1829 in Bampton, oxfordshire, and married Thomas Beesley, they lived in Longworth. they were my 3x g-grandparents and I haven't been able to get any further back on this line, and wonder if there is a link to any of the Clacks mentioned on here, or any advice on how to search back further.
both filkins and Alvescot feature in my tree, but not (so far) with Clacks.

I've just been looking through my bookmarks and noticed that in an old thread, 16 Feb 2009, to a member you said that Ann Lock and Thomas Clack were married in Alveston.
I have the PR Transcript for Broughton Poggs where Ann was born. They were married at St Peters in Broughton Poggs. You have the date correct.
