Of the 3 Ada johnson's of 1861 census, yours is missing in 1871.
If you are checking the Stanley/Wakefield one is the same.

Did your Johnson's have family in the Sheffield area?

Name: Ada E Johnson
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1861

The death certificates show that Mary Ann Johnson died first 22/8/1863 from Scarlet fever & English Cholera Charles died 27/8/1863 from Scarlet fever & their father died 5//9/1863 from inflammation of Thorax&Exhaustion.
I have been unable to determine what happened to the other child Ada who was C 3 at this time. She does not appear with her mother in the 1871 census where Ann is remarried to John Newton & only has her son Thomas who was born 1864 with them.
Can anyone else shed further light on Ada please.
Many thanks to Andy & Julie for their help Carrol

Hi Andy

The certificate for Thomas Johnson shows Mother as Ann a widow maiden name Myers & father Thomas Johnson . So this is the right person thanks. The 1861 census has Thomas born Keighley Yorkshire C1823 & Annie born Plymouth living in Bradford at the address where Thomas was born in 1864 & there are three other children. I can't locate a birth for them or in a census after this or find a death for Thomas senior - will keep looking Many thanks fore you help Carrol

Hi Andy

The certificate gives her father as Theodore MYERS whose occupation is gentleman. The myers is a bit hard to read the M. I will order the birh cert for Thomas Johnson & see if this helps. I am still looking in all my usual search places to see what I can come up with.
Thanks again

So Ann had a previous marriage! Does the marriage cert you have give her maiden name or the name and occupation of her father?

Hi Andy

Received the marriage cert for John Newton & Ann Johnson I ordered & it looks like it is the correct one. Thank you I will pursue the notion that Thomas was born a Johnson since Ann was listed as a widow on the cert
Many thanks

Hi Julie
Yes that is the correct Thomas Newton I have these certificates. Leslie Arthur was my grandfather. I don't have a birth cert for Thomas nor a marriage cert for John & Annie. I have ordered the one for 1865 suggested by Andy & will explore the idea that Thomas may have been registered as Johnson???
