A big big thankyou to all of you for your help, it's been very useful and given me more avenues to check rather than relying on other peoples family trees.
I will order a copy of George Henry Skuse(b.1860) birth certificate and settle it once and for all and let you know what happens.

Dunno... I think this George is looking like the poor hubby who died before he could enjoy his kids. The marriage is close to the first child and his death is close to her remarriage.... altho i have been wrong before....

I had found the census record and the marriage record of Eliza to Thomas Jones
but it had never occured to me that Skuse could have been maiden name.

I thought it was from a previous marriage.
I thought she was Eliza Skuse(nee Cordy-b.1825) who married George Skuse(b.1824) in Gloucestershire as they had a son called Maurice.

My Grt Grt Grandad had a brother born in Glos. the same year, called Maurice... and George(1824) died in 1862 so I presumed she remarried 1863 to John.

I have even included it all in the tree (hehe), the only discrepency was the year Eliza Cordy was born and the year Eliza Thomas(b.1829) was born.

I curse our ancestors, there must be only 50 original names in the 1800s. Thankyou again for your help, best wishes and good luck.

Assuming they married late 1850's, this looks like the likely marriage...there are none in Monmouthsire...

I think your going to have to buy this cert to see if Eliza was married before!!
If she wasnt....then she had her baby George Henry before marriage....This would mean that Skuse was her maiden name. (never pay more than £7 for any cert)
