Do you know the name of Benjamin's mother?
Where is Bedliog - is it Glamorgan?

There's one in Dowlais which I know is part of Merthyr, and there's a William Ben Jones in Merthyr. Which do you fancy?!!

Janice

Janice Report 1 Jan 2008 23:53

Hang on - the dad's are 41 and 39 so too old :-(

Janice

How certain are you of William's age? Where have you got that from?

Does Benjamin have any other names?

Janice

Janice Report 2 Jan 2008 00:00

OK - the marriage is on FreeBMD and it only has Benjamin. Is this where you've got William's name from, the marriage cert?

Janice

The only Benjamin on the 1901 who has no middle name is the one in Dowlais but William and Jane, the parents have 7 children and they are 41 and 39. Do you know the names of any of Benjamin's siblings?

Sandra

Sandra Report 2 Jan 2008 00:04

yes i got the information from the marriage certificate and tried to work out the year of birth fron that

Janice

Janice Report 2 Jan 2008 00:05

William's age wouldn't be on the marriage cert though so how do you know that one?

Sandra

Sandra Report 2 Jan 2008 00:06

no i havn't got any more information about him

Janice

Janice Report 2 Jan 2008 00:07

Why do you think William was born about 1877? Do you have a death for him or some other family info?

Janice

Janice Report 2 Jan 2008 00:08

Who are the witnesses on the marriage cert? Are there any clues there?

Sandra

Sandra Report 2 Jan 2008 00:10

not sure about date of birth just tried to work it out from benjamins age which maybe why this seems to be an impossible task

Janice

The William and Jane Jones I have found with a son Benjamin age 3 are in Victoria Street.

So were you assuming that Benjamin was the oldest child? If so, we could have found the right family with William being older than you think. Here's the 1901 census entry:

Benjamin Jones
Age in 1901: 3
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1898
Relation: Son
Father's Name: William
Mother's Name: Jane
Gender: Male
Where born: Glam, Dowlais

Civil Parish: Merthyr Tydfil
Ecclesiastical parish: Dowlais St John
Town: Dowlais

Country: Wales

Alice Jones 10

The only other Benjamin with no middle name is in North Wales so I think this is our man!

Sandra

Sandra Report 2 Jan 2008 00:16

it says on the marriage certificate the it was in the presence john sherman ,who was esther ann shermans father and d adams

Janice

This may be just coincidence but there's a Daniel Adams in Merthyr on the 1901 who is a timberman below ground, and this is William Jones's occupation too.
I think we have the right one!!
