Hi. I am currently researching my Grandfather (b.1918) and have obtained his birth certificate. The place given for where he was born is 'Belper/Belker(?) Street, Harpurhey'. I've tried to find this on the maps but it doesn't show up. Does this street name ring a bell with anyone?

There is a Belper St in Ashton Under Lyne which falls in Greater Manchester...

Manchester library or museum could probably tell you if the road has subsequently been renamed or changed.

The location of Belper St in Harpurhey is listed in the 1911 Slater's directory on the Historical Directories website

The location is decsribed as "84 Conran Street to Sunderland Street." Many of the occupants are listed by house number. (too many to type here!)

The street description as mentions that the following roads intersect Belper St.
Durham Street, South Side and Llandaff Street.

Of course none of may help locate the street!
