hi sj
i have his birth as dec 1851 quarter barrow s ref pg15 vol 32 on the marriage it says banby could be mistranscibed. the death i am not sure if it would not be the one in keithly as there was another nathaniel clarke that married in keighley in 1871 so i think that could be his death.

Hi Tina

Thank you soooo much for this - been driving me mad! Why do my family insist on having surnames that can be mistranscribed or give their children names that no one can spell????

This is really helpful - thank you.

Jill

hi jill
i have found them on the 1861 census
here goes
the wrighting clearly seems to say oberton but it could also be v looking at the 1841 census there was plenty of overtons living at sibsey which is where selena was born.
living on skirbeck road
samuel head 40 labourer born sibsey/lincoln
mary ann 30 born skirbeck
william 14 sibsey
harriet 15 sibsey
selina seams to be spelt sobena 9 sibsey
emma 7 sibsy
rose 6 sibsey
benjamin 5 sibsey
ann 3 brampton
edwin 1

it looks like the birth you have found for selina is baumber her mam mary ann married samuel overton mar 1843 boston still not found the marriage thou

your tina

Jill 2011 (aka Warrior Princess of Cilla!) Report 23 Sep 2007 16:09

Hi Tina

No - I'm not suffering today - was just a bit too woozy last night to think straight!

I have a Lincolnshire problem.

Selina Oberton/Overton - born in Boston, Lincs in c. 1852.

Selina married a John Charles Spicer and they had several children.

I cannot find her marriage cert to John Spicer so not sure where that took place. It may have been in Lincs in abt 1873. First child was born in London in 1874 so marriage may have taken place in London.

Selina's name is Spicer nee Oberton on the child's birth certificate but cannot find any Obertons to fit. Nearest I have found is Selina Baumber Overton born in Boston, Lincs Dec Q 1851. Not sure if this is the same woman or not!

If you can find any likely parent marriages - 1840s - 1850s in Boston, Lincs that might help narrow down my search a bit. If there are no Obertons in the area just Overtons (which looks likely from FreeBMD and IGI etc) then maybe Selina had adenoids or a bad cold when registering her daughter's birth so it sounded like Oberton!!

They are driving me mad this lot so if you can throw any light on the matter it would be much appreciated.

Thank you

Jill

and his wife Mary Brader born 1777 at Old Bolingbroke, Lincolnshire.
Thanks in advance.
