its driving me mad. I am trying to find a marriage for a Frederick (Fred) Ensum and Lizzie (Elizabeth) Daniels. This was Elizabeth Daniels second marrige, her maiden name was Daniels her first married name was Barnes. Their first child was born in 1918 and last in 1929. Her first husband died in 1915. Logic would say the marriage should be between 1915 and 1918. I have tried all years up to 1923, but there are odd gaps on Ancestry with odd quarters missing. I have tried under the names Ensum, Daniels and Barnes.Could some kind sole check on another site to see if its there anywhere............thanks.............Paul

Hi Paul,
Did they have daughter as well?

Where were they supposed to have married?

Have found...
Births Mar 1920 (89%)

Ensum Doris M ........ Daniels... Poplar 1c 1211

I know the mothers name is down as Daniels........and strictly speaking it should have been Barnes ????

What do you think?

By the way checked 1929 births until 1939 and no more Ensum's with Daniels as Mother Maiden Name recorded.

The mother's maiden name would still be Daniels, no matter how many times she was married, so the birth reference with Daniels as the mother's maiden name is right.

Have you looked for a birth of John instead of Jack, as Jack is often a pet name for John?

UPDATE - Sorry Joanna, I didn't see that you had already found a birth for a John Ensum.

Paul,

What are the details on the first marriage? I don't see a Lizzie/Elizabeth Daniels marrying a Barnes.

Paul,

re missing quarters on ancestry Complete Index.

Did you know the following possible way round this?

eg,
Missing Sept quarter 1920

Enter name of person, year and one or more quarters.

Click on View Image

ABOVE the image you will see a line of print that ends with:-

1920 Q1-Jan-Feb-Mar

Click on 1920

It will take you to a page listing the four quarters ............ if you are lucky the missing quarter will be there!

Hi Vera, Kathleen Joanna, Rose, Sylvia,
Thanks to you all for your help......sorry I disappeared last night, dont laugh, but I fell asleep in the chair, I had been looking at this damm PC for too long.......!!!!.......I think Joanna and kath are right, the John birth must be the missing Jack that I was looking for..........the first marriage was confirmed on my Nan's birth certificate...........she was the only child born to John Edwin barnes and Lizzie Daniels , she was born in Dublin and I am assuming the marriage took place in Dublin.John Edwin died in gallipoli in 1915 in the war. All the Ensum children were her step brothers and sisters ........but I just can't find the marriage of Frederick Ensum and Lizzie daniels anywhere...........unless of course they never married. I could try to find Lizzie Daniels/Ensums death details and see what name she is recorded at on her death which might throw some light on if she actually married her second husband...........does seem strange though???.............Thanks again for all your wonderful help and apologies for dropping off in mid search...............Paul

Paul Report 14 Sep 2007 13:02

Hi Brenda.............excellent I am sure thats both of them.........thank you so so much for that...........well it proves she at least went by the name Ensum..........but I am still unable to find a marriage for them both............so frustrating..........I really appreciate your help..............Paul

Hi Paul,

We can't find a marriage for my husband's parents (his father had been married before) and yet my husband's mother used her "husband's" name as if they were married both on the children's birth certificates and also obviously on her death certificate (which we registered as that is the only name we had ever known her to use).

Using a particular name doesn't mean there definitely was a marriage. We've certainly never found one for hubby's parents and I've spent forever looking.

Paul Report 14 Sep 2007 13:19

Well I guess there's two paths to follow, they either never ever married, or as you say I am assuming her first marriage was in Dublin and she was born in Dublin, so I guess she could have gone back to Ireland for her second marriage...........they never make it easy do they........!!!!...........

Paul Report 14 Sep 2007 13:25

Thanks brenda, I did not have this marriage listed..............Paul

Hi Kath,

Why don't they just keep things nice and easy and get married exactly where you expect them too..........!!!
