Pauline Report 25 Aug 2007 10:09

Hi Ian

I may be searching for a needle in a haystack but I am trying to trace the relatives of my husband Gil. He was born in North London on 9/3/1944 with the name of Geoffrey King. I believe his mother was possibly called Doris and she had two sons, Barry and Brian. He was given up for adoption when he was a baby through Barnados and his adoptive name became William Geoffrey Philpott. His half sister believes that the birth certificate was changed at some stage to remove the name of his father, who I believe was an American GI.

Can you give any pointers?

Many thanks

Kind regards

Pauline

hi Ceri/Ian,
Just wondering if you have been able to do the census look up i requested for.
1861 - 1901 for William White and Mary White formerly Taylor.
In 1862 they had a a son Charles Henry and were living at 27 Margaret Street Clerkenwell London.
Sorry to be a pain and thank you for the info on WW1 death cert.
Regards
Colin

Hi David
the birth records i have access to are only dated from 1837, there i wont find any that you request.

I have looked for Sarah Death record and there two matches.
Sarah Ranson 1844 Jan-Feb-Mar Blything Suffolk
Sarah Ranson 1844 Jul-Aug-Sep Ipswich Suffolk

I looked for John's death but there are many John ransons in suffolk, so without an approximate year or area i wouldnt like to say which one it is.

This is possibly Charlotte on 1841 Census

GOWING, Charlotte F 15 Norfolk
SMITH, John M 20 Norfolk

I tried to look up Charlottes marriage but im guessing that she was married Norfolk. The results are the following:
Charlotte Gowing 1848 Oct-Nov-Dec Norwich Norfolk
Charlotte Gowing 1855 Jul-Aug-Sep Norwich Norfolk

The actual certificates might confirm this is her or not.

Hi Sarah

I have found the following for Charles:
Birth
Charles F Whitton - 3rd Qtr 1918 - born Sleaford - Mothers maiden name = Bowcock, vol 7a page 611
(if you obtain the actual certificate it would provide full details of his parents inc their occupations)

Marriage
Charles F Whitton to Winifred A Day - 2nd Qtr 1936 - in Sleaford vol 7a page 1327
(The marriage cert would provide details of themselves and their fathers and their fathers occupations)

This is possibly his death but im not 100% (is possible that he is still alive)!!
Charles Frederick Whitton, DOB shown as 22 October 1902, died in Boston 1987 February Volume No 7 Page No 1440 Reg No 287
(in fact after looking again the birth date on death record is quite a bit out, this is possible sometimes, but i would definately check)

As for Robert i searched 1942 birth records for Robert Whitton and found nothing!!
I have also not found anything concrete for his marriage.

Clive
I notice you want marriage and death records for your relatives. This is fine i shall have a look for you but do you know estimated years of the events for each of them and places where they took place, only otherwise i have to go through every record (thousands) which is obviously very time consuming.
