Val Did you contact the Australian Defence records, as Irene suggested? If he was in the AIF (you seem to have plenty of his details to narrow down the correct individual) then the service records should show next of kin info/home address, etc. Ian

Hi I'm still having problems finding my man!! I have tried to find out more about the 3010/1873, Frederick,( his parents James and Eliza, ) with out sending for a birth certificate, as this won't tell me where they went after he was born or his profession. The reason I thought I would follow this up is, that Dad's sister was Betty! they could have named her after both my grandmothers. She was christened Helen Elizabeth!!, Gran's Mum was Helen!!. This mans Mum Eliza!! Does any one in the good old Oz know of any other web page that would follow him, like we can over here, census year by year etc. I hoped this might say what he did later on in his life (join the army maybe) I am sorry to be a pain but I shall keep my fingers crossed. could he have been born over here and emmigrated to Australia?? that appears to be the next step, as we found a Frederick George born in Salford 2 months on 1881 census, year he was born !! I need to ask next if someone can do a look up in Manchester in the 91 and 1901 to see if anything shows up, FUNNY THAT HE LEFT AUSTRALIAN ARMY TO SETTLE IN MANCHESTER!! or what a coincidence !! I hope this is right, or is my brain working overtime!! Val

HELLO IRENE, HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY. THANKS ONCE AGAIN FOR ALL YOUR HELP. We never knew my Grandfather, he died about 2 months after my Dad was born in 1927. All we know about him is, that he was Frederick Henry GEORGE, born in Sydney Australia in 1881 was a soldier in the Machine Gun Corps. in the Australian army, fought in WW1, after the war he became a draftsman, settled, met my Gran, married in Manchester until he died in 1927 in Manchester. His wife was Lilian WATT, they had a daughter, Helen Elizabeth, in 1924 and a son, my Dad, Douglas, in 1927. NOT A LOT TO FIND HIM IS IT ? NO PAPERS AT ALL!!!! Regards Val

Irene Report 23 Dec 2003 22:34

Hi Valarie Don't put to much to cloud the issue, just his full name, when you think he may have been born, and when he left the army. The other thing is if he was Australian, the Australian Embassey may help, did they have to ask permission to stay in this country, and when they married did they have to show documents of any sort, that sort of thing. They may be shut for Christmas but make a list of things to ask them after. Do you remember him at all. Have a lovely Christmas and New Year may it be a good one for everyone. Irene.

Hi Irene thank you for the suggestion, my problem is, that we have NO documents of his at all!!!, everything was destroyed after he died, by my G.Gran!!, (help Gran grieve!!) we don't even have a photo of him!!! But it may be an idea to write to Australia, they can only say NOT ABLE TO HELP, DUE TO INSUFFICIENT INFORMATION. can't they? Best wishes for Christmas and the New Year - Val

Irene Report 21 Dec 2003 16:46

Val seeing as you know he was in the Australian Army why don't you write to them. If you have his number all the better. They should be able to tell his next of kin, if its like ours? Maybe able to tell where abouts in Australia as well. It may take some time but its worth a try. Irene

Val, Its the NSW Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages site. I just put 'NSW Births' into Go*gle, then go to Family History , then ,Search Records, then Births 1788-1905 and enter a range of years like 1870-1890 in this case. The site address (remove brackets) is www(.)nsw(.)gov(.)au Your not quite 1881 Fredericks in Sydney are Frederick son of James and Eliza, 1873 Frederick L A son of Frederick A and Edith, 1896 Frederick W son of Alfred E and Lily M,1903 There are other Fredericks in New South Wales (NSW) but mostly in country towns and also with the wrong middle initial.

Can you let me know how I get the NSW site you mention? also would it be at all possible for you to look up the 4 Fredericks and let me have the information displayed. I can only hope that they left the Henry out when filling in forms.!!! Many thanks Val

John Report 30 Nov 2003 03:06

Val, The NSW Registry of Births etc has a Family History section for lookups...don't get too excited though..no Frederick Henry George...4 Frederick Georges born 1873-1890 though.
