Thanks for the help on the SMITHS. Can you look further at Mary Ann HALE, christened 17 Jul 1842 recorded in Therfield Herts ? I think her mother was Jane Monks. I know she's the right Mary Ann Hale but always thought they came from Bedfordshire. Can you look up more info about mother and father John HALE for me ? Thanks

Thanks Debra...........more confused now....for some reason I've got John Hale (b.1832)married to Jane Monks daughter of Richard Monks Knotting Beds and later he married Ann Headland, daughter of Thomas Headland from Souldrop Beds. Their children (according to IGI) were Mary Annb.1842, Emmab.1868 and Sarah Elizabeth ,christened 17 Mar.1867 all in Knotting Beds. I got this from IGI - can they be this wrong or are there so many Hales around ? Any ideas ? Mary Brooke

MARY BROOKE Mary Ann was the only one that exactly matched the info you gave me! it might be worth keeping hod of and looking into it further. And for the fact that she had a sister called Emma aswell (I know its a gamble but considering they named the offspring after family members). Can you email me direct with all the info you have given me and I will go through my discs again and if not to many will try to see how many Hales in that area and forward them to you Debs

Deborah

Deborah Report 2 Mar 2004 06:53

JACKIE I checked the map book and its not really that far away. and considering that the marriage was more likely to take place where the bride was from so its worth looking into Debs
