What date was the earliest census ? I'm trying to locate who was in the household of Townsend House, Dilwyn, Herefordshire. I know Rev. Thomas Kyrwood Bowyear lived there around 1837 but that's about it. Can anyone help with this? If there wasn't a census, how can I find out ? Mary Brooke

Mary The earliest census was taken in 1841 although it doesn't give as much info as subsequent ones. Jeanette

Thanks Kathryn. Don't want to shell out more money just yet and as I'm only looking for one particular household maybe someone will find it for me. I'll give it a go anyway. Mary
