Hi, We're looking for a Jessie A Wehrle, Harrison or Hammant in 1881, 1901 Census .. she was living with Rosalind and her 2nd husband, Joseph Hammant. Found her on 1891 Census aged 10 living with parents and siblings, Violet, Francis and Joseph jr, but cannot find any in 1881 or 1901 census... where are they? Jessie & Violet was born in Peckham .. Jessie 1880ish and Violet in 1878ish. Rosalind was married to Frederick Wehrle, so 2 sisters are Frederick's children. Please help! Thanks, Tracy |

I can't seem to find anything else. Nothing on freeBMD, not for Violet or Jessie. Have you tried 1837online? you might be able to track them down that way. Best to find out when they were born. I don't know!!! Can;t think of anything else! Sorry! Chloe |

I says he's not married on there, has it occurred to you that they never married? In this case, Rosalinda Elizabeth (as she is down on FreeBMD on her marriage thing to Joseph Hammant) could have been using her maiden name. Do you know it? |

Chloe, Harrison was her maiden name yes - they are the couple ... just the case of the children we're looking for really.. I can see them on the 1891 Census as Frederick supposed to have died so Rosalinda remarried in 1885 - 1889 to Joseph Hammant (any variant surname). Thanking you, Tracy |

Frederick's 2 children had the same surname .. as I just found Violet Blanche Wehele's marriage in 1895 (which you did for Frederick's variant surname) so it's Variant of Werhle |

Not GRRRREAT news I'm afraid, still trying to help but it's not getting anywhere!! I think I know who Violet Blanche married in 1895... Surname First name(s) District Vol Page -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Marriages Sep 1895 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Craddock Richard St. Saviour 1d 47 Monger Margaret St. Saviour 1d 47 Shipton Walter Amos St. Saviour 1d 47 Wehele Violet Blanche St Saviour 1d 47 Wehrle Violet Blanche St Saviour 1d 47 She married Walter Amos SHIPTON. In 1901 census, there is a Violet Shipton living in Camberwell, aged 23 born in Peckham, London. You'll need to either spend money to find out who definitely living with her, or use the census decoder to get a rough idea. Chloe |

I think I've found Jessie, although it's spelt differently and she has the HAMMANT surname.... in 1901 there's a Jesse HAMMANT, aged 20, born in Peckham, living in St George Myrtar Southwark working as a restaurant waitress. There are 7 HAMMANTs living in St George Rosilinda HAMMANT, aged 41, born in Bermondsey Joseph HAMMANT, aged 35, born in Bermondsey, Hair Dresser Jesse HAMMANT, aged 20 etc Frances HAMMANT, aged 14, born in Camberwell Joseph HAMMANT, aged 12, born in Camberwell Joy HAMMANT, aged 3, born in Bermondsey Percival HAMMANT, aged 1, born in Bermondsey Think that's them!! Remember, people change their names like nobody's business then, didn't need to be adopted etc. And the census was transcrbed in India, hence the different spellings. Chloe Chloe |

No prob, I'm glad I found something, it was driving me absolutely potty.... still is!! I think Rosalinda etc must have been out of the country, or you could try "census strays" not sure if that's any help as whenever I can find my ancestors, they tended to be in India. Chloe |

Chloe, From what I was told by my friend that Rosalinda and Jessie went with the circus... now that'll prove to be more difficult ! They may went there during the 1881 Census as we cannot find them on it either... They are there in 1891 now 1901 (thanks to you). Just missing in 1881. Thanks again, Tracy |
