I'm looking for a David Armstrong who would be aged about 3 on the 1891 Census. His father was called John and there may be refrence to a Robert. Details of this family would be truly appreciated. |

Paul - going by the information that Patricia has found dont think this is our man, but many thanks for looking. Patricia - many thanks for this. Just as an aside - I've checked 1837 Online for deaths between January 1889 and June 1891 and the only John Armstrong which remotely ties in died aged 46 in Newcastle in the December quarter of 1890. Doesnt this research give you a buzz. Thank you both for your help. |

Do you have the marriage? Year Quarter District County Volume Page Appleby, John 1872 March Houghton le Spring Co. Durham 10a 496 Armstrong, John 1872 March Houghton le Spring Co. Durham 10a 496 Dixon, Elizabeth Catherine 1872 March Houghton le Spring Co. Durham 10a 496 Mitchell, Elizabeth 1872 March Houghton le Spring Co. Durham 10a 496 Dixon is in Thomas' name. Can't find dad in 1891 he may have given different birthplace - what else could he put for Hetton. I have checked every John Armstrong but no coalminers the right age. |

Pat - outstanding. I can only say thank you. Easington Lane is sometimes listed as part of Hetton. Although for John and Elizabeth to meet up Hetton is nearer to Houghton than Easington Lane. Wonder where he was. |

Let him shout - this is far more important. Now, Durham is not on Ancestry 1871 so you will have to go to Durhamrecords on line to get these people pre-marriage. They are both on there but until you pay £3 for images you won't know if they are with parents. John Armstrong is given as 22 years old born Hetton living Easington. Elizabeth Dixon is given as age 22 indexed in Easington and Houghton. As for 1891 I think he did a runner!! Tricia |

Hi Tricia Had a look at the copy of the 1891 Census you sent and the Crumbies were living next door on that one too. Many thanks for your help. I shall have a look through to the Records Office at County Hall to look at the 1871 Census. Chuffed that you found John and Elizabeth C. marriage. Another wall has come tumbling down. Happy hunting |

Hello Tricia, I had not got as far as having a look at the entry for 1901 only found Elizabeth on the free view. Sorry I've only just got back to you, I've been trying to set up Net Meeting with my sister and it nearly goosed my computer. Think I shall give up on that one. |

Tricia - Just looked on freeview and yes David is there aged 13 a Pony driver at the Pit. He didnt get married until 1906 to this looks like the family. John would have been 52 in 1901, but in those days they seemed to loose track of their ages. Kind regards - Linda |
