Kevin Leopold Glashen Glasheen, 12, who had Romany antecedence, was sent to Australia as an orphan in 1947 to start a new life. Whether he was an orphan may or may not have been the case, given the dubious circumstances surrounding Great Britain's deportation of working class children to Australia at the time from state care had little to do with whether or not they had parents or extended families to care for them.

Kevin died a suspicious death while in care, allegedly from a 20 foot fall from a balcony while sleepwalking at 'St Mary's Tardun School'. Run by the Christian Brothers it was infamous for sexual and physical abuse of children they had given charge of, the truth surrounding Kevin's death may never be known.

B Witts was 11 when he left England, but 12 when he arrived in Australia.

Can't see a likely birth, however.

The boy Devine had also ‘aged’ a year in transit.

Entirely possible they had birthdays during the voyage, I suppose.

If J Devine did, the birth I suggested is obviously not him.

Jenny will need a few birth certs if she wishes to progress this enquiry.
