Norman

Norman Report 24 Mar 2005 18:49

Hi Kazzie, I would be very grateful if you could check for the following members of the Foster family. Henry (36), Mary (35), Cornelius (16), Jane (14), Harriet, (12) and Caroline (11). In the 1841 census they are shown living at Higher Street, Morden. There may be other children by 1851 and i know that by 1871 Cornelius had moved to Hampshire. Many thanks Norman.

Thanks Kazzie. Frustrated about the Tobys, but it doesn't surprise me, annoying buggers!! LOL As for the Attwooll's, they were born in the right place (Portland) but not the right names. Might Maryann be Margary??? Chloe

Kazzie Report 30 Mar 2005 19:15

Chloe looking at it again probably is Margery, what are the names you are looking for?they are a typical Weymouth and Portland name with lots of them about back then,my gr gr grandmother was a Marshallsay and they were a typical name here and even have a road named after them,if you give me the names you are looking for will have a look later as off up my mates Kazzie

Thanks Kazzie. I'm looking for Margery Attwooll (I think you've found her, she was the informant on my ancestor's death cert). I can't seem to figure out HOW she was related to the TOBY'S because her maiden name was Scholler and I can't find any link with that name. Anyhoo - for the Toby's, I'm looking for Edward Toby , born 1772 in Portland. His wife was Sarah nee SCORE born c1768 (would be about 83 - she died in 1855). I can't find them in Portland (at the Dorset OPC site), and she died in Melcombe Regis in 1855, which makes me think she might be around there somewhere, and possibly her husband too! He was a 'mariner' - BUT more than likely it was just a posh word for smuggler. Thanks. I hope you have/had fun at your friend's! I'm watching the match at home (if that's what you're doing there). Chloe

Hello Kazie, this might be a long shot but my DAWSON'S moved from Sturminster Newton & Sturminster Marshall about 1800-1818 two of the Dawson brother's settled in the Isle of Wight one in Cowes and the other in Ryde I am wondering if any stayed in the region of Sturminster/Okeford Fitzpaine. The other siblings possibly left behind were: MaryAnn born 1808 age 43 in 1851,Samuel born 1788 age 63,John born 1792 age 59,William born 1794 age 57,Henry born 1797 age 54, Edwin born 1805 age 46. All born Fiddleford,Okeford Fitzpaine,Broadwey,Hammoon except Samuel who was born St John,Portsea. If you can find any Dawson's that fit the bill I would be very pleased to hear from you. Thankyou in advance for your time & effort Best wishes Jenny
