I have been trying to research my father in laws side of the family. On his birth certificate it says his mother was Dorothy Louisa Weightman formaly Perkins & father Harry James Frederick Weightman. I have tried searching but cant find any marriages for a Dorothy Perkins & if i put in Harrry's full name in nothing comes up at all or with just his first name that many come up i get lost. Can anyone suggest anything to help me as im hitting a brick wall & its very frustrating. Thanks Ket xxx |

It comes up with prestwich as the district. I know this sounds stupid but that surely has to be her doesnt it? If that Dorothy is the only one coming up with the middle name of Louisa |

We were under the impression that the weightman line were all from Southern England but we cant actually remember Jim (my father in law) actually ever saying that. |

Where have you looked for the marriage of your father-in-law's parents? And did he have any siblings? If so, were any of them older than him? Rose |

A lot of relatives I've found invent or eleborate names later on. My husband's gt grandmother is plain Rose on her birth cert, but her marriage and death certs have her as Rosella. Similiarly I have an Annie who becomes Elizabeth Anne and an Ellen Eliza who drops the Eliza. So you can't go on her full name as a clue. If she was the one born 1895 that would make her 39 when her son was born in 1934, so did he have older brothers/sisters? Or do you think this 1895 one doesn't sound right? nell |

I have been looking on Ancestry for their wedding but because im not sure where they both came from & ages it brings up that many people. He had other brothers & sisters but my husband can only remeber him mention his sister Julie her details are - Julia D Weightman Jul-Aug-Sep 1932 Maryleborne Vol 1a Pg 666 Zoe, Thank you for the offer of the look up. Any information you could find would be a great help. It will hopefully point me in the right direction. Helen, I really dont know if the 1895 one is right or not. I was mainly going on the 'L' but if like you said this isnt reliable to go on then im back to square one. We did think all the family was from the essex/kent area but until i can find something else to go on i dont know what to do or where to look. Ket xxx |

You won't find their marriage on Ancestry or freebmd............they only go up to about 1910. I rather thought that was where you'd been looking, which was why I asked........ You will have to search on 1837online to find it. Rose |

If you send off for their marriage certificate, it will tell you how old they were when they married. This should help you work out which birth record is the right one. It will also tell you the names and occupations of both fathers so you could use their names as a checking point when ordering the birth certificates. Sam x |

Is this Harry's death (assuming he has died of course, and in UK) Name: Harry Weightman Death Year: 1998 Age: 86 Birth Date: 19 Oct 1912 Death Registration Month/Year: Jan 1998 Registration District: Swindon Inferred County: Wiltshire Inferred Country: England Register Number: C51B Entry number: 3 If not, perhaps you need to order marriage cert, which will give you the fathers' names, which would help on 1901 search. |

It could be. I will order the marriage cert & see where that takes me. I was hoping father in laws birth cert might have given me some more info about them but it only gave there names which was a start. Ket xxxx |
