Find Ancestors

I would be so grateful if someone could help me find a Birth in 1851 which I have been searching for, for years with no luck!!!!!!!!. His name is William Clements and he was born in Braughing, Hertfordshire. This is certain by census records for him and also his marriage cert. In this 1881 he is aged 28, in the 1891 he is aged 40 and in the 1901 he is aged 49. I desperately need his birth certificate so I can cross reference and check I have the correct parents His parents are William and Kezia Clements. I have an entry in the Baptismal register of October 19th but I really need the birth cert. Can anyone help with this mystery as I have been upto the FRC and cannot find it anywhere. Kindest Regards

Births on FreeBMD are almost zero for that year so it'll have to be a search on one of the pay per view sites. Suzanne

You might like to check your file for this one. Its a Burial in braughing for William age 87 - so several generations back. Result pages 1 10203050 results on page View as table 1. Thank you Kath again and sorry I posted the message wrong. Hope I'm in the correct place now. Can you let me know where you found the reference so that I know where to look as I couldn't find it at the FRC after searching through years and years of books. At the same time as searching for the birth my mum and I searched for his marriage to Lucy Anne Chapman. They married between 1871 and 1881. In the 1881 census they are married but living in Edmonton Middlesex. In 1871 Lucy is still in Hertfordshire. Can you let me know where to search for this marriage as well if possible. Hi Lisa, I did reply to your personal message with the information. I found the birth on 1837online, which is a pay per view website. It has the complete BMD index from 1837 up till 2003. You will find the mariage there too. If you can narrow down the years when the marriage took place a bit I can have a look for you, but 10 years is a bit expensive to look through. Kath. x

Dear Kath Once again haven't got the other message you sent. Quite new to this site and finding your way around with the messages. I haven't been on the 1837 site before. The info you asked about is that Lucy was in Hertfordshire in 1871 and had an illegitimate son which she left behind!! By the 1881 census she is with William Clements in Edmonton Middlesex and it shows them having a William Clements who is my Great Grandad. His birth shows her as Lucy Clements so I presume William and Lucy married between 1871 and 1876. I have searched at the FRC and couldn't find the marriage and I thought it was complete records up there. Kindest Regards Lisa

Hi Lisa, Have you got your great grandad's birth certificate? You say his birth shows his mother as Lucy Clements, so I assume you have got the birth certificate. However, just because it shows them as married, and with the name Clements, formerly Chapman, doesn't necessarily mean they were married. I've seen occasions when a couple have said they were married on a child's birth certificate, only to find that they married in the months after the birth. People did tell little white lies. As they give their son's birthplace as Tottenham on the 1881 census perhaps the marriage happened there, which would be the Edmonton district. Haven't found a marriage in either Bishop's Stortford or Edmonton yet though. Have to go out now, but I'll come back to this thread later. Kath. x

There is a marriage of William Clements in Royston area in March quarter 1873. FreeBMD record is complete so can not see wife on that site.Don't have1837 myself. There's anotjher in Seprmenber quarter 1873. Would have expected later date myself. Jim
