Thanks Esta, it is really strange as Eli George was definitely not dead as he reappears as a witness to a marriage in 1878 Very puzzling Carole

neither of them are dead by 1871 ...........probably just mis-transcribed. the 1881 census is free to search Familysearch.org If you have a look you will find them both.

and they are both alive in 1891 Eleanor Bushell abt 1822 Portishead, Somerset, England Wife Nettleton Wiltshire William Bushell abt 1821 Nettleton, Wiltshire, England Head Nettleton Wiltshire there's a possible death for Eleanor in 1891 ( freebmd.org )..not sure about William though. and a possible for William in 1895......so they might not be on 1901.

I think the mistranscription is likely as I can't find any trace of Eli George, eleanor's nephew on the 1871. He would have been about 13 by then..neither can I find his father Charles b Portishead about 1827 and mother Elisabeth but Eli turns up in 1878 . Eli had a brother Joseph, born about 1854 in Swansea - can you see any sign of him after 1861? Don't worry if you don't have time...I'm grateful for the help you've given already Carole

the only one I can find in 1871 is Thomas Carey from 1861..

If joseph was born Swansea I suppose there's a chance he could be in Wales.......Might be worth a look. might also be worth checking 1881.

Think so There were two couples Charles Carey (1) + Elisabeth Brooks children - among others, Eleanor and Charles (2) Charles (2) also married an Elisabeth (Johns) two children, Eli George and Joseph So on the 1861 there is Joseph Cary with Charles Carey and elisabeth Brooks, his grandparents and Eli George is with his aunt Eleanor Bushell. No sign of Charles (2) and Elisabeth Johns , parents of Eli and Joseph Hope this is clear!!! Carole

I think they might have me beat - I can't see them.. Do you know where was Eli born.....the details 1861 don't look right to me !!............. is it Bristol or Lancashire
