Find Ancestors

After years of searching for the parents of my 3x great grandmother and no luck, I am wondering if someone else will help me. Details below...

My great great great grandmother was: Elizabeth Churchill, born Ufton, Berkshire in 1837. Could someone please find her and her family on the 1851 census? I'd be most grateful, Cheers, Emma.

This looks like her birth registration, so you could get her birth certificate:- Elizabeth Churchill Sep. qtr. 1837, Bradfield, 6, 113 Ufton is in Bradfield registration district. Kath. x

I have checked Berkshire 1841. There is NO Richard Churchill listed ....... and the only Elizabeth I can find is 3 years old but with : William & Rachel: (maybe NOT parents ???) HO107 - 0029 book 17 Folio 5 (Bradfield, Newbury & Wokingham) William Churchill 55 (Grandparents ????) Rachel 45 Charles 15 William 13 Maria 11 James 9 <<<< fits with '51 Lydia 6 <<<< could this be the Sudie ? Elizabeth 3 <<< (1851 image - Sudie is actually Lydia !!) Sorry, I can't get any further details. You would need to ask someone with the disc's.

Thanks for that extra info, Elaine. Very strange. I think your hunch could be right about James, Lydia and Elizabeth being the same people in the 1841 census. Could Maria be the other child (Mary)? I thought perhaps Richard might have been someone who adopted the children in the event of their parents dying, but I've just found Rachel Churchill still alive in 1881!! Emma

Perhaps Rachel was incorrectly transcribed as 'Richard'!!

I've just looked on 51 for Rachel & William to see where they were and who they were with ... but can't find them - so presumed they had died ! Elaine ;-)

Emma !! I was just coming back to say ... 1851 image IS RACHEL NOT Richard !!!! SHE is HEAD of house ! So YES !! 1841 is CORRECT family ! PHEWWWWWW '!

Have just come back to this thread, and am glad to see Elaine has worked out that Richard is actually Rachel. I've checked the image again - it's so important as there are so many mistranscriptions. I had noticed Lydia was wrongly transcribed, but not Rachel. Well done Elaine. Kath. x

This looks like it might be William Churchill's death:- William Churchill March qtr. 1842, Bradfield, 6, 103. This would fit with him being on the 1841 census and not the 1851. Kath. x
