Mhairi Queen of Scots Report 28 Mar 2006 21:22

Hey Everyone Once again i am setting off to the Edinburgh Records Office and i'm willing to do a few look ups for people. Please read the below CAREFULLY before posting. The Edinburgh Records office hold all birth/marriage/death certs from 1855 to 2006 from all over Scotland. At this moment i will NOT be offering census or Old Parish record lookups (events that took place before 1855). Census because Scotlandspeople (the online website) has more census's in computerised form than is at the Records office and OPR because they take longer and dont often show much more than names and date of event). This offer is of most help to people who have events that happened after 1905 for births 1930 for marriages 1955 for deaths Or people how have a really had time finding someone. For BIRTHS i need Full name Year of birth or aprrox year Parents names (if known) Area born For MARRIAGES i need Full name of one or both Year of marriage or an aprrox year Either parents names (if known) Area married For DEATHS i need Full name Who they were married to if married Year of death or an aprrox year Year of birth/age at death or an aprrox Parents names if known Area died IF you'd like a lookup for a person who you think might still be ALIVE then PM me - ALL other PM's will be deleted. This thread will be closed at 9pm on the 29th of March. I usually keep them open for longer but i have already offered to look up things for other people and i have my own research to do. Anyways hope i can help someone Mhairi

Mhairi I put this on your last offer for look-ups at Edinburgh, but didn't hear from you. I have read your offer carefully, and while you don't quote this category, neither is it excluded!!!! It's a will i'm looking for - too late to be on scotlands people. It's for Robina ROSS, who died in Nairn July 1930. I will understand if you can't do it, but thanks anyway!

Hi Mhairi, Thank you so much for this very kind offer!! Can you please do a search for a marriage of John Dye and Mary Ferguson in 1939 in Dundee. Mary's parents were Thomas Ferguson and Mary Ferguson, sorry I don't know John's parents names, but I think his father may be David Dye but not sure. I am also not to sure of the month but think it may be July or August. Both John and Mary were born in 1914 but would be interested in having their dates of birth . I am very interested in their parents names too. Also if you have the time I am also looking for the marriage of Thomas Aloysius Collins and Mary Ann Yule McKay in 1944, in Dundee sorry I don't know which month it was but it was in St Joseph's RC Church Dundee. Thomas Aloysius Parents names were Thomas and Ann or Annie. Also interested in Mary's parents names. I hope this is possible, if not I will understand as you will have an awful lot to do. Thanks!! Betty

Hi Mhairi, Thanks for the offer, you be be saving me. I am after the marriage of Jane GUNNING & William John WEAMES. They had a son, William John WEAMES (Jnr), in c.1886, as he was 22, in 1908 when he married Mary A. FITZSIMMONS in Ayr Scotland. The marriage for the parents, Jane & WJ WEAMES (Snr) would be around 1884/5(?). As far as I know Jane's parents were James GUNNING & Ann Jane GUNNING (formally BURNS &/or Wallace). I think Jane, born c.1866 in Ayr (?), then went on to marry a McCULLOUGH in Ayr, after the death of her 1st husband. Anything you can find out will help me greatly. Thanks Sandra

Mhairi I have a birth of Robert Rogers 7/1/1900 born Hamilton Lanarkshire, child of Robert Rogers and Elizabeth Robinson. My gran who was born in 1912 has no recollection of him and I can find no death or marriage on Scotland's People. I know this is a big task as I don't know if he ever married or when he died, but would be grateful of your help. Thanks Isobel

Thanks Betty Boo :) I love doing lookups for people plus i sometimes get a bit carried away so if i come back with more than you asked for dont be surprised! Actually i love doing this so much that i've already told my mum that if my degree doesnt work out then i'm going into a career in family history research although i'm hoping the degree works out - if not i'm going to have a ton of debt to pay off. Anyway enough rambling. And finally an hour or so later than planned this thread is CLOSED! Mhairi

Clare William Vernon 12/08/1962 (68) Married to Agnes Watson Parents as stated. Didn’t get marriage I’m afraid. Susan David Steven 22/01/1906 Leith South which is in the Edinburgh area. William Steven - Seaman Maggie Ann Baird They married on the 31/08/1895. I ran out of time before I could look at it but you’ll be able to get it from Scotlandspeople. Neither was I able to get a death cause the time just seemed to disappear at the end. Betty Boo John Dye - 24 Mary Ferguson - 25 22/07/1939 David Dye Catherine Downie or Dowie Thomas Ferguson Mary ? (sorry couldn’t read) Thomas Aloysius Collins - 24 Mary A Y McKay - 18 01/08/1944 Thomas Collins Anne Early (decd) John Simpson McKay Mary ? (name began with an F) Lisa Cordelia McLean ? McFarlane 16/11/1910 Malcolm Agnes Purdie McLean 16/11/1910 Sorry but I couldn’t find a marriage between Robert and Agnes at least 10 years either side of the date you gave. Isobel I couldn’t find a death either and a marriage would have been too time consuming due how common the name is. Sorry I couldn’t be more help. Nikki I looked about ten years either side and I couldn’t find the birth. I don’t seem to have much luck this time.

Thanks so much! Great to know her middle name - makes sense as it's a family one. I always knew her as 'Delia' so confirming the first name is a big step! Thank you for your time :o)
