Reg, I just realized that as well, and had gone back for a double check. Everything else fits though.(Perhaps he was large for his age!!) So is the elusive Ewart still out there somewhere? Think I'm going to have to order his birth certificate to clear this up. Sue.

Sorry to be wet blanket, but the boy Ernest is 10 years too old. I checked the image, and his age is very clearly 12. I'd hoped there might be a 'mths' after it, but no such luck! Reg

Hurray. F.C. You're an absolute star! What terrible mistranscriptions!!! It's no wonder I couldn't find them. Looks like Ewart is a son and not a grandson after all. Thankyou very much Sue.

Sue I realised that about the census..........just didn't want you worrying unnecessarily about the propriety of the marriage....lol Reg

Georgina Gibbons would not have been William's niece..........she would have been his first wife's niece......... Reg

F.C. You've certainly turned up something interesting. I didn't know that William got married twice. But his first wife was Ann Gibbons, and on the census he is recorded as wdr. So it does indeed look like he married his niece! I wonder if Ewart was their child?(although that would make him younger that the grandchildren). Thanks for that info. Sue.

Fiona Report 3 Apr 2006 15:15

Elaine, His birth is also registered under Ewart Rapkins (without the Gibbons). There are also two marriages registered in the name of Ewart G Rapkins. So I am pretty sure that his correct surname is Rapkins. Sue.

Sue Report 3 Apr 2006 15:02

Hi, Gibbons is the maiden name of his grandmother. His father could possibly be John Brunsdon Rapkins(If he belongs to this family)

Sue Report 3 Apr 2006 14:54

Thanks Julie, but I do already have that info. I want to find him on the census so that I can tie him in with a family. If not, I will have to send for his birth certificate----but I don't really want to wait that long!! Sue.
