How do I check a marriage on Ancestry please - inf

Hi everyone, Can someone please tell me when I search for a marriage on Ancestry beta, I put in the name and year quarter etc when the page comes up to view and i have the name of the female, what do from here to found the man she married?? Betty |

If it's before (I think) JAS 1911 or it may be JAS 1912, then you buy the certificate !!! |

You can't find it from the indexes unless you have a name to check to see if the references cross-match. The only way if you don't know would be to buy the cert. Janice |

If it's after 1911 (I think) when they started putting spouses surname on the index, then you can cross check the same qtr. and year for that surname. If it's before this date, then you have to buy the certificate - English genealogy is very expensive, lol. Kath. x |

Hi Jools, I will not buy the certificate because there are 11 children in this family and I don't want to buy them all, already got the marriage certificates of the parents. I have the husband of this girl already but have been told by a family member in Belguim they think I had the wrong person. I don't think I have just wanted to check. Betty |

If you have the name of the man you think she married, just look at the index for his name and in the qtr. and year that you found the female in, and see if the district, volume and page numbers are the same. If they are, then you've got the right name. Kath. x |

Betty as long as page number district and volume no are the same for bride and groom then its very likely you have a match Are they on the 1901uk census |

Hi Sue, Thanks for your help, it's just I found out just the other night from a family member who lives in Belgium, that his cousin was brought up by this family from when he was a baby and he said the married name was wrong. I think they have it wrong but what can you do// Betty |

Yes Betty, Put in 1900 for the year, the qtr. that you found the bride in, and the groom's surname (the name you think is the right one), and look to see if this name is in that qtr, with the same district, volume number and page number as you found for the bride. If they match then it is likely that you have the right person. Kath. x |
