Alicia Thanks. I had not got John. My earliest John G is 1828 and I wondered where this name had come from as the rest of the generations seem to stay with the same names for the boys, in the traditional naming way. The earliest child I have for laurence and Elizabeth is Mary bap 26/4/1778 Leigh . Your info is the first time I have something outside Leigh. I had been told that the Greensmiths were in Leigh over 400 years ago, but this shows they were not. I will try expanding out further afield now. Did you get any other children before 1778? More help than you realised! Much appreciated Linda Update I googled on Calton and found a name of some one researching Calton. I sent him an email and have just received this reply Dear Linda, > > I have the will of Wm Hidderley of Croft Cottage, Calton 1806 which mentions > Greensmith. Also at Town Head Farm. I will turn up my references and be > with you in the very near future. > > My book on Calton is to be published on 10th June > > David All down to you!! Many thanks again Linda
