What an impressive thread. This is what GR's all about! Can I just say that people would often put on the census the place they were permanently living in at the time of birth even if the actual birth location was a temporary one. Therefore a family could be living in Shoreditch but the pregnant mother could go to stay with a female relative or friend in Camberwell for the period of her confinement. So the censuses would all say Shoreditch even though officially the birth was registered in Camberwell.

possible marriage of Charles Haylett (born 1847) Charles Everdell Haylett Year of Registration: 1868 Quarter of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar District: St Luke County: London, Middlesex Volume: 1b Page: 719 Charles Everdell Haylett 1868 Jan-Feb-Mar St Luke London, Middlesex Sarah Ann Snell 1868 Jan-Feb-Mar St Luke London, Middlesex - which would explain where the SNELL middle name came from!

Well it looks as if we are on the right lines - but you do need to check this information against some certificates. To be 100% sure you need George and Clara´s marriage certificate George´s birth certificate Clara´s birthcertificate

Well what we have given you doesn´t seem to fit in with your 'known facts' Clara Van Rijn/ Vandyke born 1880 in Camberwell -how sure are you of this? She married George Haylett - we have found her marriage registration - if you order the certificate it will show the names of both fathers and their occupations which could help with census searches. Goerge born about 1881 - with his father´s name from the marriage certificate you could probably trace him in the census Clara's father is an unknown Van Rijn born in the Holland Netherlands - from the census we have found it looks as if it could have been Walter b1843 in Bloomsbury!! If the birth registration we have found for Clara is the right one - and with a name like van Ryne -its highly likely, then this will confirm her parents names
