Thank you so much may of last got to the bottom....know William Brailey's mother was a Vanstone as nan told me yesterday...not pleased to find out his father was a William lol!..will now order the Okehampton cert & hopefully that will be one line back I go!! Thanks guys....

I think the 1870 William Breyley Okehampton birth registration is worth following up, particularly as parents married in Okehampton and they are still there on 1871 census. You can use the parents names as a checking reference when you order - will save you three pounds if its the wrong one!

Looking at the areas under Okehampton there is one called Gidleigh do you think this might be Jingley/Hingley?? Mags

so are we saying he was born in Waytown / Jingerly / Hingworly - which are near Barnstaple ? - still can´t find any of these place names on a map !!

I see the family were living in Tavistock in 1881 if the above is the correct family. Maybe they moved there just after his birth, and he was registered there instead. Just a thought. Mags.

Must admit I wasn´t sure either - hence the question marks. To be honest on a quick glance through the thread was having difficulty deciding where exactly he was born - and have never heard of Waytown and Jingerly - and couldn´t find them on a map!!

Actually on second glance I'm not so sure as I don't think Tavistock would be the reg district if born in or around Barnstaple....
