Hi Julie, thanks for your reply. Yes the cert would tell me,but I was hoping someone may be able to help me with parish records. I have a marriage certificate for Ellen Selina Carr, born St Giles Oxford she married in 1865,I think it could be the same lady, but on the cert I have she says she was a spinster. Her father was Richard. Hi Julie, yes she is on the 1841 with her mother,Sarah, sister Isabella and brother George.in St Giles Oxford. I can't find her at all after that until she appears in 1871 census with a Robert McClelland, who had 2 daughters, born before Ellen married Robert But no children any older that could be her's.Unless the first daughter belonged to her, I have the cert for the second daughter, she was a true McClelland but cannot find the birth of the first,a Caroline Elizabeth McClelland. She is my brick wall and driving me crazy. Thanks again Sheila |

Thank you for all you looking Julie,it's most kind of you. There seemed to be no end of Carr's in Oxford,Ellen had lots of siblings according to familyserch. But on her 1865 marriage certificate it does say her father was Richard a ...Gentleman. Regards Sheila |

hiya again think the only way around this one is to order the cert(s) with richard as ref check, and as you KNOW that sarah is mother possibly this as well, that way you know you have them, did you try looking for the first child under MMN of Carr?? Julie |

Hi Julie I think you are right,it seems the cert is the only thing that will tell me for sure. I have looked for the first child Caroline Elizabeth McClelland, with Carr and Dell with no luck. It says on the census she was born in Hilsea.I am begining to think she was not registered at all. But Robert McClelland was in the Royal Artillery at the time of her birth,so I would have thought she would be registered, just like the last child.Unless she was Ellens child, this may account for the lack of info about her birth. Regards Sheila |
