A name & what has been searched would be a start. How did you get back to him also might help.

his name is william john askew, born abt 1889/91, on his marriage cert his name is william john waterman askew, same on his divorce papers and on his death cert his name is william askew, he died aged 58 in 1948, he has a brother christopher harold askew who was born abt 1899/1900 and died aged 57 in 1957 who i also cant find a birth for. ive searched on genes, ancestry, bmd and 1837, searched years 1889/1890 and 1891 and not found anything, he was also in war, a gordon highlander but theres confusion with that as theres no army numbers etc.. on his marriage cert. what else can i do? ive done a few posts bout this aswell. joanne

Have you found him or his brother on the English census for 1891 and 1901. Just wondering if he was Scottish? Yes I know a stupid question but someone has to ask it. Maureen

GlitterBaby Report 29 Sep 2006 23:08

glitter baby, interesting, i think ive had people search before for scotland and found nothing. so do you have to be scottish then to be a gordon highlander?

My only knowledge of the Gordon Highlanders is from a death certificate during WW1 for a rellie of my Mums. Did check for William but again no results from 1888 to 1892 nor under the name of Waterman Good luck with the search. Maureen

Hi Joanne have you found him on a census at all.. What area of UK do you think he was born.. the Waterman maybe his mothers surname as she may have had him out of wedlock then married an Askew and William has taken his name. Colette

collete, i aint got a clue where he was born at all, he married in merton, surrey and died in devon so my guess is he moved around alot. maybe he was born out of wedlock then, so does that mean his name on birth would be william waterman? i have changed his name around when searching aswell.

On the marriage certificate does it give any name for the father? Maureen Did check ScotlandsPeople for a marriage - male name Askew - female name Waterman between 1890 and 1900 - again not matches. Maureen

I can not find the same family in 1901. Not had much luck with 1881 as no real match for William senior. Wild guess time but you have probably ruled this out as well Births Jun 1901 Askew Christopher Claude W Kingston 2a 435 This is in the right area for the family in 1891 and could match the age on death certificate for Christopher. Would also explain why he is not on 1901 census. Interesting that the initial 'W' is the third name. Sorry no other ideas Good luck Maureen 1901 just wondering if this is the family Name: William Asker Age: 46 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1855 Relation: Head Spouses's Name: Jane Gender: Male Where born: Nk, London, England Civil parish: Wandsworth Ecclesiastical parish: St Andrew County/Island: London Country: England Registration district: Wandsworth Sub-registration district: Wandsworth ED, institution, or vessel: 38 Neighbors: View others on page Household schedule number: 312 Household Members: Name Age Alice Asker 10 Christine Asker 2 Flora Asker 4 Jane Asker 43 Ruben Asker 14 William Asker 46 William Asker 12 Source Citation: Class: RG13; Piece: 486; Folio: 53; Page: 50 Update I think the image is Askew William is a gardener jobbing

glitter baby, yes ive seen that also, if his middle name was beginning with a c then that would be good but his middle name is harold but the other initial w is interesting but dont think its any good but i wont dismiss it just incase. thanx for trying, i appreciate it. joanne
