Find Ancestors

Hi, I have got my Gt, gt gt grandfather's name and an approx date of birth but nowt else. Any tips on how I could find anything out. His name was William Dower born around 1860, his son Edward Dower was born in 1888 and lived in Pontypridd area of South Wales.

Thanks Jess. Edward J Dower 1910 was my greatgrandfather's brother and there was 17 of em all together. No-one in my family can seem to help me with where William Dower was born except he either came from Australia or emigrated there!

Sorry searched the Census for Wales and England 1871-1901 can not find William or Edward. Elizabeth

Thanks for looking Elizabeth. The others were David William 1909 (My gt grandfather) thomas, idris, ceinwen, sommera, annie, sydney, john, edward, vivien, sophie, maldwyn, shirley and that's about all I can remember for now. I know a bit about each and have the info but keep drawing a blank on William. I have a marraige certificate for Edward Dower and Blodwen Mainwaring from 23/03/1908 and on it it says William Dower, Collier, deceased. The address on it says 61 Woodfield Tce, Penrhiwceiber.

Just found the following on Free BMD: William Edward Dower born 1907 Dec Qtr Pontypridd Edward J. Dower born 1910 Sep Qtr. Pontypridd. I could not find any earlier entries for Pontypridd for these two names. Also searched LDS but also no evidence. Elizabeth

have looked for the births of the most obvious 3 sommera, vivien, &, maldwyn - and cant even see them. were they older or younger?

These are the dates I've got (from the family) David wlm 1909 died 1986 Vivien - 1921 died ? Maldwyn - 1936 still alive - have asked for info and still waiting Shirley - 1935 still alive Ceinwen 1931 not sure Annie - 1927 still alive Sydney - 1925 died 1980's Trevor - 1923 not sure Ivor 1921 died ? Sophie 1919 died 1990's I think Thomas 1915 died? Johnny 1914 died? Idris 1913 Died? Charles 1912 died? Edward 1910 died? Calab 1914 may have died at birth. Sommera 1916 or 1917 - would ask but she now sadly has dementia so I don't like to!

I have got David's birth certificate and his mother's maiden name was Mainwaring and I have her and Edward Dower's marraige cert. Her Dad was David Mainwaring and a witness who signed the certificate was Ceinwen which I've assumed was her mother.

You two are brilliant and so kind to take this time out. x I wonder if the family info is slightly wrong and they think that Idris and Caleb are two different people when they are one and the same!
