Hi Patricia That's a pretty wide search, especially with a surname like Williams, and would take some time. I did, however, have a quick look on FreeBMD and to start off with, there are two Mary Elizabeth Williams who got married in Stoke Damerel between 1878-1880. The spouses are listed so you would need to look at later censuses to see if you can work out which one she married and if, indeed, she's the right Mary. Mandy :) |

Sorry, I went out of order and did Sheila's first because I thought it would be the quickest (haha!!). Not had much luck I'm afraid, Sheila. Under the GRO Regimental Birth Indices 1761-1924, would you believe the bad luck I encountered - there's a McClelland listed with a dirty great smudge across the page. The only thing I can make out is the middle initial - E - and this might therefore be yours. Perhaps you could contact the GRO as I've given you the relevant index? I also found a McClelland (Female) listed under the GRO Marine Births Indices 1862-1875 and the reference for that is simply 'page 23'. At first, I thought that 'female' indicated a stillbirth or death shortly after birth like we'd normally assume on the UK records, but looking down the list nearly all the births are listed as either Male or Female. I checked the UK births for every quarter of 1861-1863 and didn't find anything. Mandy :) |

Please could you give me a bit of time to do the wider searches, but I'll definitely get the three above done tonight (just didn't want anyone to think I'd forgotten!). Mandy :) |

I expect many of you will remember Bendy Wendy. She is taking a very intensive course of study this year and family history/GR has had to take a back seat. She took up one of those special offers from 1837online and has now got loads of spare credits that have to be used up in the next few weeks, so she offered them to me. I said that I would offer lookups with them, so if you want any BMDs searched on 1837online, please ask away! I need to keep myself busy at the moment anyway, so the more the merrier! Mandy :) |
