Hi all, yes I am aware of the two marriages, Maria O'Brien is my relative, She married a Charles Pettigrew in 1862 but it does not mention a fathers name for Charles on the marriage cert. I was wondering if Charles could have married Ann bigamously, as Maria is found on the 1881 census on RG11/ 4769/ 118/ 33. Kingston upon Hull, Yorks, as Maria Ashton, living with Thomas Ashton and her son John W. Pettigrue. I can not find a marriage between Maria and Thomas Ashton. Also I can not find any Royal Navy notes for a Charles Pettigrew born about 1844?

There is no mention of a father on Charles' marriage to Maria O'Brien, Maria is living with someone else (Thomas Ashton) in Hull in 1881. There is a Charles Pettigrew born in Scotland living in Bettersea with his wife Ann in 1881.

On the SS Columbia which sailed from Glasgow 3rd September 1904 arriving in New York, there was Mr charles Pettigrew and a Mrs Pettigrew andboth aged 60 and Agnes Pettigrew aged 32, which ties into the 1901 census If you would like the image please pm me with your email address Ann
