Thats worth looking into. I'll look up my other info about Charles Baird and who he went out to St P with .... I've got the bug now! Want to visit Edinburgh and St Petersburg!! I'm going to look for a very large piece of paper ... roll of lining paper ... it might go on for that long! Thanks for your thoughts and advice Mhairi.

You should definately visit Edinburgh, its a lovely city :) I'm sorry if i have caused you any more hassles, i know family history can be mysterous and troublesome most of the time without other people coming in and adding more to the pile. If you ever need any further help with the Scottish side then let me know, i'm a regular at both the main library and the records office. Mhairi

Ooh! I knew there was a possibility at some point of the name spelling changing (Handyside ----- Handysyde) was hoping it didn't though if I'm honest! That is another possibility though, thanks. Mhairi, I gather Great King Street in in central Edinburgh, whats it like? Is number 25 still there? Other known addresses 48 India Street and 30 Danube Street Sara :-)

If you could do that it would be more than amazing! My further info on Charles Baird ...born on 20/12/1766 (died aged 77 in 1853) in Bothkenner, near Carron, Scotland, was the son of Nicol Baird, superintendent of the Forth and Clyde Great Canal. 1782 apprentice to Carron Company 1786 accompanied director to St petersburg Marries Sophia Morgan in 1794 Thanks Mhairi x
