the only concrete info I have onj miles is thathe was a smith, living at 6 devonshire street in 1879 (from daughters birth cert). The D.O.B is not particularly reliable i'm afraid! Have not found them together on a census yet./ Thank you both

There are 3 possible mary kellys in lpool/ west derby 1857 so having a bit of a nightmare!

He could have been Irish. Then again If he was the one born 1838 he would hav been 19 when he daughter was born and perhaps out of country at census?
