Simone it might be worth you getting in touch with the Rutherglen Family History Society, I read on here the other day that someone could not locate a marriage on scotlands people & the local history society found it straight away. Georgina.

Hi Georgina I have James as an Engineer on all the census 1841,1851, and 1861 and his son John's marriage cert, however I have John's Birth from the OPR'S and it states he was born to James Bruce, Collier and Grace Pollock- I did wonder if he was an Engineer at the Colliery, after all they would have had to use machinery and wagons to carry the goods. Simone I am stumped on their marriage but you could be right about Grace being Grizzel because it seems they had a daughter Grissel in 1805 & then named their next child Grizzel (the first probably died) so maybe she was known as Grace. Going back to the census where you have James as a Collier what occupation is on his other children's marriage certificates? Georgina.

Hi Georgina Yes Thanks I have those too, but I also have the OPR'S on the igi- If you key in the batch number c116242 with a parent search on igi they will come up- They all say 'Extracted birth or christening record for the locality listed in the record. The source records are usually arranged chronologically by the birth or christening date. ' The source record states that they are fro OPR'S Gets confusing this genealogy lark doesn't it! Simone

Simone I have found them, I was spelling the mothers name Connor & it was Conner see how easy it is to miss an entry. LOL. Georgina.

Simone

Simone Report 14 Feb 2007 11:57

Hi Georgina The spelling is Conner with an 'e' in the opr's and igi- although the death record for Grace has it with an 'o'. The census returns have her birth as 1816-1819, so ages are all over the place! Simone x

Simone I have all the one's from the IGI but they are all submitted entries which means none have been confirmed in parish records, it is on the official site I cant find them. That dosen't mean they dont exist it just means their parents musn't have had them baptised. Georgina.

Georgina

Georgina Report 14 Feb 2007 11:47

Simone I have just put in the search box on the OPR's Birth & baptism's Surname Pollock and then in parents names Pollock & Connor & it showed no results, I must be doing something wrong are the surnames mispelt? Georgina.

Simone Report 14 Feb 2007 11:43

Hi It looks like Bailleston, Old Monkland, Lanark Simone x

Georgina

Georgina Report 14 Feb 2007 11:28

Simone if she was Grissel her birth would have been about 1805 (according to the IGI) so if she died in 1858 her age should be about 53? What makes it harder is there are no Births/Christenings showing in the OPR's on Scotlands people for any children with parents names Pollock & Connor. What was the address she was living at when she died? Georgina.

Simone

Simone Report 14 Feb 2007 11:22

No I haven't found it either, but though it may be Grizzel, but called herself Grace- Her sister Agnes was baptised in 1798 to Archibald and Margaret. Simone x

Simone Report 14 Feb 2007 11:19

Hi Georgina Will have to give up on death for James I think- can't be definite - Also there is a James b c 1812 still living in Blantyre, lodging with the Mason family, a pauper/Embecile- but it doesn't say if he is engineer on ancestry and I can't get an image, so it is possible that this is him. Georgina Report 14 Feb 2007 11:11

Simone there is something strange here, have you found a Birth/Baptism for Grace? From the IGI the children born to Archibald Pollock & Margaret Connor dont include a Grace? Although all the entries are submitted & not from parish records, I cant see a birth for her in the OPR's on Scotlands people, what info have you found? Georgina.

Simone Report 14 Feb 2007 11:02
