Margaret I think George must have been married before as like you think Mary was a bit too young to have a son 6yrs old. Suexxx |

Margaret Thanks for all the look ups.Your a STAR I know I maybe asking a bit too much but is it possible that you could look on the 1851 census for either Darnell Yorkshire or Walton Derbyshire to see who George was married to please. Thanks Suexx Thanks Maureen for the 1881 I have seen this George Lee and I wasn't sure either because by then he and Mary should have been on their own. Suexxxx |

Do you think this could be him in 1851? He's a widower at the tender age of 23. But this doesn't account for a child born in 1855. Upper Moor, Brampton, Derbyshire Richard Lee, head, 53, farmer's labourer, born Chesterfield Mary, wife, 50, born Wingerworth?, Derby George, son, widower, 23, ironstone miner, born Chesterfield Mary, dau, 9, scholar, born Brampton William, son, 2, born Brampton |

Margaret That could be him as he could have had another wife after 1851 and she could have died maybe in Childbirth(surmising) and then he could have married Mary England in 1858. I'm like a dog with a bone just can't let go. Thanks Sorry to put you to so much trouble and thanks for all your help. Love Suexxxxxxxx |

I think the one that Glitter Baby found in 1881 is correct. I saw it and thought that Mary might have died and George re-married. Couldn't check it though. (Meal peparation you know!) Anyway there's a death of Mary Lee, aged 35, in Chesterfield, March quarter 1877 and a marriage of George Lee to Mary Ellen Coup, June quarter 1880, Chesterfield. The full transcript of the 1881 census is: Post Office, Walton, Derbyshire William Dale, head, widower, 77, formerly farmer, born Buxton, Derby Mary Ellen Lee, dau, 46, post mistress, born Walton, Derby George Lee, son-in-law, 52, railway waggon builder, born Walton, Derby William Coupe, grandson, 15, railway waggon labourer, born Grampton, Derby Harry Coupe, grandson, 13, scholar, born Grampton, Derby So, Mary Ellen was born Dale and had previously been married to Coupe. Now to find George's sons. |

This looks like son Alfred in 1881: 3 Spring Place, Chesterfield, Derbyshire Alfred Lee, head, 26, railway waggon builder, born Darnall, Yorkshire Emily, wife, 23, born Chesterfield George Henry, son, 3, born Chesterfield Emma, dau, 3, born Chesterfield Florence Minnie, dau, 1, born Chesterfield Now, there's a double slash between this and the next entry which usually means another family but the address is the same and he's just listed as lodger: Sidney Lee, lodger, 24, colliery labourer, born Darnall, Yorkshire Curious!!! Now I've got to go and look for that Sidney Lee in 1871. Oh, I'm having fun!! |
