Thanks for all this

Bruce Beddow is in two trees apart from Christopher’s. May be worth pursuing, if not already done

Anthony is an open record in 1939 on FMP, so someone must have given FMP proof of death

Reading that post, the OP knows the identity of at least one other wife, so he has a lot more info than seemed at first to be the case.

As has been said repeatedly, certs are at least part of the answer

His birth shows second forename. BERT…….no marriages on freebmd with that additional initial, so apart from the marriage to Ruth one cannot say which - if any - of the records for the name are for the man in question. Apart, obviously, from those which have different additional initials……….

Process of elimination, based on location and comparing with births. Or buying copy certs……….
HIS to Ruth should say whether he had been married previously - if he was truthful.

Re Tony's job -

his death cert, or one of his marriage certs, should give his occupation.

This is the most fantastic trail of discovery. Thank you so much. I will print and dig into it in more detail. It would have been Ruth's 100th birthday next week, and so I am hoping, if she had any children, I may be able to find more about them in honour of her. They may know something about the last 16 years of her life when she was with Tony.

In terms of my surname, my Mother chose to change my surname at my birth since Tony was no longer on the scene. Years later, this name chage heed me uncover who my father was. Albeit I still have no idea what Tony did as a real life job.

Thank you again
Chris

ADD - I have ordered the Probate for Ruth

ADD - Her will leaves everything to Tony if still alive (he died 3 months before her) and then in Trust to her brother Hans van Drucke of Frankfurt. So those who found Ruth Drucke were indeed accurate Thank you

In case we've got the right Ruth -

as the 1984 marriage was in Harrow -

???
Ruth M. Mackenzie
in the London, England, Electoral Registers, 1832-1972
Name Ruth M. Mackenzie
Electoral Date 1967
Street Address 3 Parkfield Avenue
Ward or Division/Constituency Harrow on the Hill
County or Borough Harrow, England
Registration Place Harrow West, Headstone, Harrow

Ruth is at that address from at least 1966 until 1969, and then in 1970 she's at Morley House, Whitchurch Parade, Whitchurch Lane, Harrow - as far as ERs on Ancestry show.

EDIT:
No, I think that's a different Ruth Mackenzie in 1970.
Ruth M Mackenzie is in Parkfield Avenue in 1966, 1967, 1968 and 1969.
Ruth Mackenzie (no middle initial) is at Morley House in 1968 and 1970.

So I’m not the only one that needs to concentrate ;-)

I mentioned the need for the marriage certificate twice yesterday.

Shame Christopher hasn’t yet come yet to tell us whether we are on the right track.

Durnstein (if that's what it is on the cert) is Ruth's mother's maiden surname, and not a place.

nameslessone Report 13 Sep 2025 17:23

I was beginning to wonder if Drucke was foreign. Not picking up anything on google with those two versions of place names.

Update: how about Durnstein, Lower Austria on the Danube.

I had a look at Ruth's 1944 marriage cert.

Her father was Hans Drucke, mechanic.
Her mother was Hatha (Katha ?) Drucke, maiden surname Burslein ? Durstlein ?

The handwriting is hard to read.

I would guess she came over from (Germany?) before (?) WW2.

Surname for that one looks to be Drummond

Goes back to knowing what names are on the marriage certificate.

Interesting that Ruth seems to use her maiden name on the two earlier marriages
