Hiya I am very curious to learn where my name originates from, i am told Ireland but i am not sure. Please email me with any info. My Dad is David Loye and was brought up in Liverpool. All i know is that my nan was Irish.

my brother in law is dutch and his name is loye
I assumed it came from holland

It sounds more like a French name than a Dutch name. If you search the IGI for Continental Europe at www.familysearch.org, you'll see that most of the records are French, although there are a few Belgian and Dutch (from The Hague) as well.

A quick searchin the IGI for the British Isles brings up lots of records for the name Loye in many different counties in England, and also lots for Loy (without the e) in Ireland and Scotland.
